An apartment clearance is a logistics job as much as a lifting one. The furniture is the same as a house — a sofa, a bed, a wardrobe, a table — but it has to come down a stairwell or through a lift that may need to be booked and protected, out through a lobby with a door code, past a bin store that explicitly bans bulky items, and onto a truck that is allowed to stop for twenty minutes at most. Get any of that wrong and the management company is on the phone.
We do this every week. Full apartment clearance in Dublin
Everything out: furniture, beds and mattresses, white goods if the apartment isn’t being let furnished, the contents of the kitchen presses and the hot press, the balcony furniture and the bikes nobody collected. We protect the lift and the corridor walls, carry what won’t fit the lift down the stairs, and stage it in the loading bay or on the street in short bursts so nothing sits blocking a fire route. Most one- and two-bed apartments are a half-day job with one truck; a large three-bed penthouse with a full balcony is a day.
If it’s a landlord’s apartment between tenancies, we photograph it empty for your records. If it’s a sale, we leave it ready for the agent’s photographer.
Partial apartment clearance in Dublin
The most common apartment job we do is partial: the old sofa and mattress a tenant left behind, the furniture that won’t fit the new place, the contents of one bedroom that’s become storage. Small apartment jobs are quick — often under an hour on site — so they’re priced accordingly. We can also do a “swap”: remove the old sofa the morning the new one is delivered so you’re never without one.

Apartment Clearance across Dublin: every area we cover
We provide an apartment clearance in all 161 areas below, and at the rural addresses between them. Dublin is four local authorities, not one, and that matters more than most people realise when they’re getting rid of things. Dublin City Council runs a bookable bulky-waste collection; Fingal, South Dublin and Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown don’t collect bulky waste at all. Where you live decides what the council will and won’t do for you — so on this page we’ve split the county by council area, named every area we cover, and set out exactly what each council offers so you can compare it with simply calling us.
Housing stock varies enormously: Victorian and Edwardian terraces on the canals with narrow halls and no off-street parking, 1930s–60s semis in Crumlin, Cabra, Drimnagh and Finglas, the big apartment developments along the Luas lines and in the Docklands, and newer estates on the edges in Fingal and South Dublin. Access is the thing that changes a Dublin job: parking suspensions on the quays, management-company rules in apartment blocks, and the three-storey Georgian house with everything in the attic.

Doing it yourself in Dublin: what the councils offer
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Dublin’s four councils will and won’t do for an apartment clearance. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Ringsend Recycling Centre, North Strand Recycling Centre, Ballymun Recycling Centre, Coolmine Recycling Centre, Estuary Recycling Centre, Ballymount Civic Amenity and Ballyogan Recycling Park, with mattresses charged separately (Mattresses €35 each on top of the gate fee). Grangegorman Bring Centre, Oscar Traynor Road Bring Centre (Coolock), Gullistan Terrace Bring Centre (Rathmines), Windmill Road Bring Centre (Crumlin), Herzog Park Bring Centre (Rathgar), Kylemore Park North Bring Centre (Ballyfermot), Eamonn Ceannt Park Bring Centre (Crumlin), Eden Park Recycling Centre and Shanganagh Recycling Centre do not accept furniture or mattresses at all. Electrical items — fridges, washing machines, TVs, computers — are free to drop at every council site as WEEE, and we take them as part of any job. Watch the vehicle rules: Vans and vehicles with a double-axle trailer pay €95; car with single-axle trailer €55. Full large or commercial vans are not accepted. Household use only.
Dublin City Council — runs a bookable bulky household waste collection: Bulky Household Waste Collection Service for all households in the DCC area (domestic only, not commercial premises). Book online via Citizen Hub (citizenhub.dublincity.ie) or phone (01) 222 2222; pay in advance by debit/credit card. €50 per collection for up to 5 items (a three-piece suite counts as 3 items); each additional 5 items +€50. Normally contacted within 5 working days; collection may take up to 10 days after payment, Mon–Fri 8am–3pm, and you cannot choose the date. Items go on the public footpath on the morning of collection (not collected from gardens, sheds or inside). Full refund if cancelled at least 24 hours before the collection date. Accepts household furniture, bedding and mattresses, carpets, kitchen units/worktops/sinks, doors, bathroom and toilet suites, bicycles, ladders, garden furniture and barbecues, fully drained oil tanks/boilers/radiators, children's swings/slides, prams/buggies/large toys. Not accepted: bagged household or bin waste, garden waste, rubble/soil/plasterboard/asbestos, large amounts of renovation waste, glass, gas cylinders, paints and other hazardous waste, batteries, fluorescent tubes, electrical goods.
Fingal County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Fingal County Council does not offer a bulky waste collection service. Use an authorised collector with a National Waste Collection Permit Office (NWCPO) permit – the council publishes a list – or bring items to Coolmine or Estuary recycling centres for the per-vehicle fee.
South Dublin County Council — no bulky-waste collection. No council bulky collection – SDCC exited the waste collection service in 2011 and has no plans to reintroduce it. Residents use permitted private collectors or bring items to Ballymount Civic Amenity. The council runs periodic free community initiatives with social enterprise RecycleIT, e.g. a mattress amnesty (in 2025 mattresses could also be dropped free at RecycleIT, Crag Industrial Estate, D22) and door-to-door WEEE collection days before Halloween.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council — no bulky-waste collection. DLR transferred its household waste collection service to private companies in 2010 and offers no bulky-waste kerbside collection. Residents use permitted private collectors or bring items to Ballyogan Recycling Park. Occasional free Mattress Amnesty Days are held at Ballyogan (most recent: Saturday 5 September 2026, 9:30am–5:30pm).

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.

How an apartment clearance works with us
Photos and the building. Send photos plus the floor, lift situation and parking. Tell us if the management company needs insurance in advance — we send it.
Booking the lift. We arrange the lift booking or protective covers with the management agent where required, and time the truck for the loading-bay window.
The clearance. Two or three of us, lift protected, corridors kept clear, items staged and loaded in short bursts.
Handover. Photos of the empty apartment and the communal areas left as we found them.

Apartment Clearance in Dublin: frequently asked questions
Will the management company allow it?
Almost always, provided we have insurance on file with them and we book the lift or loading bay where required. We handle that paperwork — send us the agent’s details and we’ll sort it before the day.
Can you use the bin store?
No — and neither can you, for furniture. Almost every management company in Dublin bans bulky items from the bin store and will charge the owner for removing anything dumped there. We load straight onto the truck.
There’s no lift. Can you still do it?
Yes. Stairs are normal for us; we price by floor and carry carefully. Tell us the floor when you ask for a quote.
Do you take white goods?
Yes. Fridges, freezers, washing machines and cookers go for proper WEEE recycling — the council sites take these free, and so do we as part of the job.
Can you do it outside working hours?
Often yes, particularly where the building restricts moves to certain hours. Early morning and Saturday slots are available — ask when you book.
How quickly can you clear an apartment in Dublin?
Small jobs can usually be done within a day or two of asking; full clearances within the week, subject to lift booking.
How is apartment clearance different from flat clearance?
We use “apartment” for purpose-built developments with lifts, management companies and bin stores, and “flat” for converted houses, bedsits, above-shop flats and council flat complexes, which bring different access problems. Each has its own page for Dublin because the jobs are different.
Do you need the management company’s permission?
Usually they need notice rather than permission — a booked lift, our insurance on file, and a time window for the loading bay. We handle that with the agent once you give us their details.
Can you clear a furnished rental between tenants?
Yes — we take only what you tell us to and leave the landlord’s furniture in place. Photos before and after, and an invoice per unit for agents with several apartments.
What about the balcony and the storage cage?
Both included. Basement storage cages are a common forgotten space; tell us the cage number and we clear it in the same visit.
Will you take the bikes in the bike store?
Only your own, and only with the management company aware. Bikes left by previous residents are the management company’s call.
How much does an apartment clearance cost in Dublin?
A single item or a few pieces is a short van call; a full one- or two-bed apartment is typically a half-day with one truck; a large three-bed is a day. Floor, lift and loading-bay access move the price more than the furniture does. Photos get you a fixed quote the same day.
Does the council collect bulky items in Dublin?
Dublin City Council does — a bookable collection at €50 for up to five items, with a wait of up to ten days, for furniture and mattresses but not electricals, garden waste or rubble. Fingal, South Dublin and Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown offer no bulky collection at all. Details are in the council section above.
How far is Dublin from your base?
We’re based in Athy and run into Dublin daily — city-centre jobs are about 75 minutes from our yard, which is why we schedule Dublin work in rounds rather than one-offs, and why our quotes for Dublin don’t carry a long-distance premium.
