Nobody clears an attic for fun. It gets done because the house is being sold, because the roof is being insulated or converted, because a parent has died and the children have discovered forty years of boxes, or because the ceiling has started to bow. By then there’s a lot up there, most of it in boxes that split when lifted, and the only way down is a ladder through a hatch.
We bring the crew, the bags, the boxes and the patience. Everything comes down, gets sorted into keep / reuse / recycle / dispose on the landing, and leaves the house the same day. Full attic clearance in Dublin
The whole roof space emptied: boxes, suitcases, old furniture that was carried up before the stairs were changed, cots and prams, Christmas decorations, the water tank’s old lagging, loose insulation, offcuts of timber and plasterboard from the last job, and the things nobody can identify. We lay dust sheets on the landing and the stairs, work through the hatch in a chain, and sort on the floor below. Anything you want to look at first gets stacked separately. A typical semi’s attic is two to four hours; a big old house with a full-height attic that’s been used as a room can be a day.
If the attic is being insulated or converted, tell us — we’ll clear right back to the joists and take the old insulation too.
Partial attic clearance in Dublin
Sometimes it’s just the furniture and the heavy things you can’t get down yourself, or just the half of the attic that belongs to one person, or just enough to make room for the water-tank engineer. We’ll do exactly that and leave the rest where it is. Partial attic jobs are usually an hour or two and priced to match.

Attic Clearance across Dublin: every area we cover
We provide an attic clearance in all 161 areas below, and at the rural addresses between them. Dublin is four local authorities, not one, and that matters more than most people realise when they’re getting rid of things. Dublin City Council runs a bookable bulky-waste collection; Fingal, South Dublin and Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown don’t collect bulky waste at all. Where you live decides what the council will and won’t do for you — so on this page we’ve split the county by council area, named every area we cover, and set out exactly what each council offers so you can compare it with simply calling us.
Housing stock varies enormously: Victorian and Edwardian terraces on the canals with narrow halls and no off-street parking, 1930s–60s semis in Crumlin, Cabra, Drimnagh and Finglas, the big apartment developments along the Luas lines and in the Docklands, and newer estates on the edges in Fingal and South Dublin. Access is the thing that changes a Dublin job: parking suspensions on the quays, management-company rules in apartment blocks, and the three-storey Georgian house with everything in the attic.

Doing it yourself in Dublin: what the councils offer
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Dublin’s four councils will and won’t do for an attic clearance. Timber is taken at Ringsend Recycling Centre, North Strand Recycling Centre and Ballymun Recycling Centre, usually cheaper than general waste if it’s kept separate. Electrical items — fridges, washing machines, TVs, computers — are free to drop at every council site as WEEE, and we take them as part of any job. Watch the vehicle rules: Vans and vehicles with a double-axle trailer pay €95; car with single-axle trailer €55. Full large or commercial vans are not accepted. Household use only.
Dublin City Council — runs a bookable bulky household waste collection: Bulky Household Waste Collection Service for all households in the DCC area (domestic only, not commercial premises). Book online via Citizen Hub (citizenhub.dublincity.ie) or phone (01) 222 2222; pay in advance by debit/credit card. €50 per collection for up to 5 items (a three-piece suite counts as 3 items); each additional 5 items +€50. Normally contacted within 5 working days; collection may take up to 10 days after payment, Mon–Fri 8am–3pm, and you cannot choose the date. Items go on the public footpath on the morning of collection (not collected from gardens, sheds or inside). Full refund if cancelled at least 24 hours before the collection date. Accepts household furniture, bedding and mattresses, carpets, kitchen units/worktops/sinks, doors, bathroom and toilet suites, bicycles, ladders, garden furniture and barbecues, fully drained oil tanks/boilers/radiators, children's swings/slides, prams/buggies/large toys. Not accepted: bagged household or bin waste, garden waste, rubble/soil/plasterboard/asbestos, large amounts of renovation waste, glass, gas cylinders, paints and other hazardous waste, batteries, fluorescent tubes, electrical goods.
Fingal County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Fingal County Council does not offer a bulky waste collection service. Use an authorised collector with a National Waste Collection Permit Office (NWCPO) permit – the council publishes a list – or bring items to Coolmine or Estuary recycling centres for the per-vehicle fee.
South Dublin County Council — no bulky-waste collection. No council bulky collection – SDCC exited the waste collection service in 2011 and has no plans to reintroduce it. Residents use permitted private collectors or bring items to Ballymount Civic Amenity. The council runs periodic free community initiatives with social enterprise RecycleIT, e.g. a mattress amnesty (in 2025 mattresses could also be dropped free at RecycleIT, Crag Industrial Estate, D22) and door-to-door WEEE collection days before Halloween.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council — no bulky-waste collection. DLR transferred its household waste collection service to private companies in 2010 and offers no bulky-waste kerbside collection. Residents use permitted private collectors or bring items to Ballyogan Recycling Park. Occasional free Mattress Amnesty Days are held at Ballyogan (most recent: Saturday 5 September 2026, 9:30am–5:30pm).

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.

For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.
How an attic clearance works with us
Photos through the hatch. A couple of photos from the ladder and a note of the hatch size and access tell us almost everything.
Agree what’s kept. Family paperwork and photographs are the usual keeps. We stack them on the landing for you.

Yes, loose or rolled fibreglass and mineral wool insulation goes as general waste. If we find anything that looks like asbestos we stop and tell you — that needs a specialist.
Can you sort what’s up there? I don’t know what’s in the boxes.
Yes. We bring boxes down and open them on the landing with you, or stack them for you to go through at your own pace and come back for the rest. Paperwork and photographs are always set aside.
What about the water tank and pipes?
We work around them and don’t touch plumbing or wiring. If the attic is being cleared for a tank replacement or insulation job, we clear exactly the area the tradesman needs.
Can you do the garage and shed the same day in Dublin?

Is a cleared attic worth it before a sale?
Agents say an empty attic is a real selling point — buyers look up the hatch. It also lets the surveyor see the roof, which avoids questions later.
Is there a minimum charge for an attic?
A small attic job is priced as a short visit — an hour or two — rather than a full clearance rate. We don’t pad small jobs.
Can you take the attic flooring or the old water tank?
Loose boards and chipboard sheets, yes. A disconnected tank, yes. Anything still plumbed or wired we leave for the tradesperson.
Will you take Christmas decorations and children’s things to charity?
Where they’re in good condition and a charity will take them, we try. Tell us what you’d like kept out of the general load.
Can you do it while I’m at work?
Yes, with a key and a note of what’s being kept. We send photos of the empty attic and the landing before we leave.
Do you take the dust and debris as well?
Yes — we hoover the landing and stairs and bag the loose debris from the attic floor. A full clean of the attic space is extra if you want it.
Does the council collect bulky items in Dublin?
Dublin City Council does — a bookable collection at €50 for up to five items, with a wait of up to ten days, for furniture and mattresses but not electricals, garden waste or rubble. Fingal, South Dublin and Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown offer no bulky collection at all. Details are in the council section above.

We’re based in Athy and run into Dublin daily — city-centre jobs are about 75 minutes from our yard, which is why we schedule Dublin work in rounds rather than one-offs, and why our quotes for Dublin don’t carry a long-distance premium.
