Garden Waste Clearance in Co. Meath

Garden waste is awkward because it comes in two kinds and the council treats them differently. Green waste — grass, hedge cuttings, branches, leaves, old plants — is cheap to dispose of if it’s clean and separate, and Meath County Council accepts it at the recycling centres for a small charge. Everything else that comes out of a garden — decking, fence panels, the shed, the rotary line, the broken furniture, the paving slabs, the bags of rubble from the patio — is general or construction waste and costs more, and much of it the council sites either refuse or charge heavily for.
We take both kinds in one visit, keep them separate on the truck so the green waste is composted and the rest is disposed of correctly, and we do the cutting back if the garden needs it first. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters. We cover it by grouping Meath jobs on set days each week, so a one-off job here is priced as part of a round rather than a special trip.

Full garden clearance in Meath
An overgrown or abandoned garden brought back to bare ground: the growth cut back and removed, the old shed dismantled, the decking and fencing lifted, the junk that accumulated behind the shed taken, the paving and rubble bagged and loaded. We bring the tools for the cutting back and the crew for the carrying — in Meath it usually means a long carry from the back of a site to the road. Green waste goes as one stream, timber as another, general and rubble as a third. A small overgrown town garden is a half-day; a large rural garden with a collapsed shed and years of dumping is a day or two.
Green waste only, or just the big stuff
If you’ve done the cutting and just need the pile gone, we collect bagged or loose green waste as a single cheap stream — far cheaper than mixed waste, and it goes for composting. Or the reverse: just the decking, just the shed, just the fence panels, with the garden itself left alone. Both are priced for what they are.
What we take — and what we don’t
- Grass, hedge cuttings, branches, leaves and old plants
- Tree limbs and trunks that can be loaded by hand
- Decking, fence panels, posts and sleepers
- Sheds — dismantled and removed
- Garden furniture, barbecues, pots and planters
- Paving slabs, bagged soil and small amounts of rubble
- Garden junk — rotary lines, broken tools, dumped rubbish
- Cutting back and strimming before clearance, where needed
Not included: Tree felling and stump grinding (we can recommend a tree surgeon); Large volumes of soil or rubble (ask — a grab lorry may be cheaper); Japanese knotweed and invasive species (specialist disposal required — we’ll tell you if we see it).
Garden Waste Clearance across Co. Meath: every town we cover
We provide a garden waste clearance in all 52 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Meath is big and busy: the commuter towns along the Dublin border (Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Clonee) grew enormously in the 2000s; Navan, Trim and Kells are the old market towns in the middle; the coast strip from Laytown to Mornington looks to Drogheda; and the north and west — Oldcastle, Nobber, Athboy, Enfield — is rural and quiet. Meath County Council runs no bulky-waste collection. Its three recycling centres (Navan, Kells, Trim) charge a flat gate fee plus a price per item of furniture, and there is no council site at all in east Meath — people in Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunboyne and the coast are sent to Dunboyne’s private facility or across the county line.
Expect large 2000s estates of semis and townhouses in the commuter towns, plenty of apartment schemes in Ashbourne, Navan and Dunboyne with management-company rules, Georgian and Victorian terraces in Navan, Trim and Kells town centres, and farmhouses with yards and outbuildings across the rest of the county. Long driveways and rural lanes are more of a factor here than parking.

Doing it yourself in Meath: what the council offers
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Meath County Council will and won’t do for a garden waste clearance. Clean green waste goes to Navan Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), Kells Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), Trim Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site) and Dunboyne Recycling Facility (Thorntons Recycling), charged Green waste: 2 car bags free with gate fee, €2 per extra bag, single-axle trailer €10, double-axle €20, small van €10, large van €50. Timber is taken at Navan Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), Kells Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site) and Trim Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), usually cheaper than general waste if it’s kept separate. Small amounts of household rubble and plasterboard are accepted at Kells Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site). Navan Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), Kells Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site) and Trim Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site) won’t take construction waste. Watch the vehicle rules: Cars, vans and trailers admitted; vans and trailers pay load-based rates (green waste small van €10, large van €50). Commercial vehicles charged separately (timber €40 per van or €1.50 per pallet, scrap metal €50 per load, cardboard €30 per van, paper €40 per van). Fair-usage policy applies.
Meath County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Meath County Council does not collect household or bulky waste from homes and does not run a bookable bulky-item collection. Bulky household waste is to be brought to the three council recycling centres at Navan, Kells and Trim (run under contract by Oxigen Environmental), where it is charged per item on top of a €2 gate fee, or to Thorntons Dunboyne. Alternatively use an authorised private collector (check the NWCPO permit register). The council does run several free amnesty / drop-off weeks each year: a free mattress drop-off (typically April; e.g. Navan 18 April, Trim 19 April, Thorntons Dunboyne 19 April, Kells 20 April in 2024), a free bulky-furniture week in late July/August (couches, beds, chairs, tables, wardrobes, outdoor furniture, garden equipment, toys, trampolines, flooring, sanitary ware - mattresses excluded) rotating through Navan, Trim, Kells and Dunboyne, and a Halloween anti-bonfire drop-off in late October (furniture suites, beds, divans, bed frames, flooring, duvets, pillows, toys, doors, windows - no mattresses, paint, domestic or green waste). Rules: householders only, Meath residents only (bring photo ID plus a utility bill or driving licence), no commercial customers, and the €2 gate fee still applies. The council said in April 2026 the mattress amnesty and a sofa amnesty would run again in 2026; dates are announced on meath.ie, the council's social media and in the Meath Chronicle, and enquiries go to environment@meathcoco.ie.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.
Or we come to you
Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.

Garden Waste Clearance in Meath: frequently asked questions
Is green waste cheaper than other garden waste?
Much. Clean green waste goes for composting at a low rate. Mixed garden waste — decking, soil, rubble, plastics — costs several times more. Keep them separate if you’re bagging it yourself and we’ll price it that way.
Will you do the cutting back?
Yes — strimming, hedge cutting and clearing growth before loading is part of a full garden clearance. Tree felling is a tree surgeon’s job.
Do you take the shed too?
Yes, dismantled and loaded with the rest. See the shed clearance page for Meath if the shed is the main job.
Can you take soil and paving?
Small amounts, bagged, yes. For a patio-worth or a skip of soil, a grab lorry is usually cheaper and we’ll say so.
Does everything have to go through the house?
Rarely in Meath — most gardens have side access or a gate. Where it does, we protect the route and sweep afterwards.
When is the best time to book?
Spring and autumn are busiest; mid-summer and winter are quieter and easier to book. For an overgrown garden, late winter before growth starts is ideal.
Do you take soil and turf?
Small amounts, yes. A patio-worth or a trailer of topsoil is heavy and a grab lorry is usually cheaper — we’ll tell you.
Can you remove a greenhouse or a polytunnel?
Yes — glass greenhouses are dismantled carefully and the glass taken as flat glass; polytunnel frames and covers are loaded separately.
What about a pond or a rockery?
Pond liners, pumps and the rubble from a rockery, yes. Draining a pond and rehoming fish is yours to do first.
Do you take hedge cuttings with brambles and thorns?
Yes — gloves and patience. Thorny waste still composts; we just load it carefully.
When are you busiest for gardens in Meath?
April to June and September to October. Book a week or two ahead in those months; the rest of the year a few days is usually enough.
Does Meath County Council collect bulky items?
No. Meath County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.
How far is Meath from your base?
Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters.
