Junk removal is the simplest thing we do and the thing people put off longest. The old sofa in the garage. The broken wardrobe in the spare room. The bags from the clear-out that the bin lorry won’t take. The decking you pulled up. The fridge in the garden. It builds up because every option seems like a hassle — a skip costs a lot for what you have and sits on the drive for a week, the council site means a van you don’t own and a fee you don’t know, and the “man with a van” from a Facebook post may or may not be permitted to take it.
We make it easy: send a photo, get a price, pick a day, and we load it ourselves. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01 — so you know where it goes. Offaly is closer to us than people expect: Edenderry is 40 minutes from Athy, Tullamore about an hour, Clara and Kilcormac a little more, and Birr, Banagher and the Shannon villages about an hour and a quarter. We’re in Offaly most weeks, so there’s usually a slot within a few days.

Full loads — when there’s a lot of it
A full truck load is the equivalent of a large skip, except we load it, it takes an hour instead of a week, and it costs less for most household jobs. Full loads are what we send for a garage, a garden, a shed, a renovation’s leftovers or a flat that’s been emptied into the hall. We sort as we load — timber, metal, WEEE and general separately — because disposal is charged by weight and type, and sorting keeps the price down. If it turns out to be more than one load, we tell you before we start the second.
Single items and small loads
Most junk jobs are small: one sofa, one mattress, one fridge, a few bags, the old bed after the new one came. We price these for what they are — a short stop with a van — and we try to fit them into a run already going through your area so they stay cheap. In Offaly there is no council collection for bulky items, so a single-item collection from us is often the only alternative to a trip to the recycling centre with a van.
What we take — and what we don’t
- Sofas, armchairs, beds, mattresses, wardrobes and tables
- Fridges, freezers, washing machines, cookers, TVs (WEEE)
- Bagged rubbish and loose junk
- Timber, decking, fencing and DIY leftovers
- Carpets, rugs, blinds and curtains
- Bikes, prams, toys, exercise equipment
- Garden junk — pots, furniture, broken sheds
- Small amounts of rubble, tiles and plasterboard
Not included: Hazardous waste beyond household paint and oil; Asbestos; Large quantities of rubble (ask — we can arrange a grab or skip).
Junk Removal across Co. Offaly: every town we cover
We provide junk removal in all 37 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Offaly runs from the Kildare border at Edenderry across the bog country to the Shannon at Banagher and Shannonbridge, with Tullamore in the middle, Birr in the south-west and Clara, Ferbane and Kilcormac between. Offaly County Council has no bulky-waste collection but it does run three civic amenity sites — Derryclure outside Tullamore, Birr and Edenderry — all with a €3 car entry: Derryclure weighs furniture at 19c a kilo, while Birr and Edenderry charge per couch, armchair and bag, and Edenderry takes no garden waste, timber or rubble at all.
Tullamore has Georgian and Victorian terraces around the canal, 1960s–80s estates and big 2000s developments; Edenderry grew fast as a commuter town; Birr is a Georgian heritage town with tight streets; and the rest of the county is farmhouses, bungalows and villages with plenty of sheds. The old bog-village cottages often come with decades of accumulation.

Doing it yourself in Offaly: what the council offers
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Offaly County Council will and won’t do for junk removal. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Derryclure Civic Amenity Site & Waste Recycling Facility and Edenderry Recycling Centre, with mattresses charged separately (Mattress €10 single / €18 double). Birr Recycling Centre does not accept furniture or mattresses at all. Timber is taken at Derryclure Civic Amenity Site & Waste Recycling Facility and Birr Recycling Centre, usually cheaper than general waste if it’s kept separate. Electrical items — fridges, washing machines, TVs, computers — are free to drop at every council site as WEEE, and we take them as part of any job. Watch the vehicle rules: Small vans (€10) and large vans (€20) admitted; single-axle trailer €10, double-axle €20; domestic waste only.
Offaly County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Offaly County Council does not run a household or bulky-waste kerbside collection. Bin collection is by private permitted collectors, and bulky items (furniture, mattresses, carpets) go to one of the three council civic amenity sites at Tullamore (Derryclure), Birr and Edenderry, all operated for the council by Oxigen Environmental, or are taken away by an authorised private collector. The council runs periodic free Mattress Amnesty days with Cirtex and Oxigen: in September 2025 one Saturday (10am to 2pm) at each of Birr, Edenderry and Derryclure, limit four mattresses per household, householders only, no commercial users.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.
Or we come to you
Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.

Junk Removal in Offaly: frequently asked questions
Is it cheaper than a skip?
For most household jobs, yes. A skip is a fixed size you may not fill, needs a permit if it goes on the road, and sits for days. We charge for what we take and we load it. For a genuinely huge job a skip can win — we’ll tell you.
Do I have to carry it to the road?
No. We take it from where it is — the attic, the back garden, the third floor.
Do you take mattresses and fridges?
Yes. Both carry a disposal charge, which we show on the quote. Council sites charge for mattresses too; fridges are free at the council as WEEE.
How quickly can you come?
Small jobs usually within a day or two; same day is sometimes possible.
Where does it go?
Sorted on the truck; reusable items set aside; recyclables recycled; the rest to authorised facilities under permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. You can have the details for the load.
Do you cover all of Offaly?
Yes — every town and village on this page and the rural addresses between.
Can you collect from outside if nobody is home?
Yes — leave it in the garden, the driveway or the garage with the door open, send us a photo, and we collect and send a photo of the space clear.
Do you take builders’ rubble?
Small amounts, bagged — a few bags from a DIY job, yes. A skip-load of rubble is better with a grab lorry and we’ll say so.
Do you take garden waste as well as junk?
Yes — kept separate on the truck so the green waste is composted. See the garden waste page for Offaly if that’s the main job.
What’s the smallest job you’ll do?
One item. A mattress, a fridge, a sofa. We fit small jobs into runs so they stay cheap.
Do you cover rural Offaly?
Yes — every townland, not just the towns on this page. A long lane and a gate are normal for us.
Does Offaly County Council collect bulky items?
No. Offaly County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.
How far is Offaly from your base?
Offaly is closer to us than people expect: Edenderry is 40 minutes from Athy, Tullamore about an hour, Clara and Kilcormac a little more, and Birr, Banagher and the Shannon villages about an hour and a quarter. We’re in Offaly most weeks, so there’s usually a slot within a few days.
