Junk Removal in Co. Louth

The stuff that doesn’t fit the bin and isn’t worth a skip. We come, we load, we go — across Louth, usually within a day or two.

Crew loading junk onto a truck during a junk removal in Louth

Junk removal is the simplest thing we do and the thing people put off longest. The old sofa in the garage. The broken wardrobe in the spare room. The bags from the clear-out that the bin lorry won’t take. The decking you pulled up. The fridge in the garden. It builds up because every option seems like a hassle — a skip costs a lot for what you have and sits on the drive for a week, the council site means a van you don’t own and a fee you don’t know, and the “man with a van” from a Facebook post may or may not be permitted to take it.

We make it easy: send a photo, get a price, pick a day, and we load it ourselves. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01 — so you know where it goes. Louth is the furthest county we cover — Drogheda is about an hour and a half from Athy, Ardee and Dunleer a little more, and Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula around two hours. We run Louth jobs in batches, usually one or two days a fortnight, so we can keep the price fair; the trade-off is that we’ll offer you a date rather than a same-week slot.

Full loads — when there’s a lot of it

A full truck load is the equivalent of a large skip, except we load it, it takes an hour instead of a week, and it costs less for most household jobs. Full loads are what we send for a garage, a garden, a shed, a renovation’s leftovers or a flat that’s been emptied into the hall. We sort as we load — timber, metal, WEEE and general separately — because disposal is charged by weight and type, and sorting keeps the price down. If it turns out to be more than one load, we tell you before we start the second.

Single items and small loads

Most junk jobs are small: one sofa, one mattress, one fridge, a few bags, the old bed after the new one came. We price these for what they are — a short stop with a van — and we try to fit them into a run already going through your area so they stay cheap. In Louth there is no council collection for bulky items, so a single-item collection from us is often the only alternative to a trip to the recycling centre with a van.

What we take — and what we don’t

  • Sofas, armchairs, beds, mattresses, wardrobes and tables
  • Fridges, freezers, washing machines, cookers, TVs (WEEE)
  • Bagged rubbish and loose junk
  • Timber, decking, fencing and DIY leftovers
  • Carpets, rugs, blinds and curtains
  • Bikes, prams, toys, exercise equipment
  • Garden junk — pots, furniture, broken sheds
  • Small amounts of rubble, tiles and plasterboard

Not included: Hazardous waste beyond household paint and oil; Asbestos; Large quantities of rubble (ask — we can arrange a grab or skip).

Junk Removal across Co. Louth: every town we cover

We provide junk removal in all 29 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Louth is Ireland’s smallest county but it has two of its biggest towns: Drogheda in the south, straddling the Boyne, and Dundalk in the north under the Cooley mountains, with Ardee, Dunleer and the Castlebellingham villages between them and a run of coastal villages from Baltray up to Carlingford and Omeath. Louth County Council does not collect bulky waste. Its two civic amenity centres at Dundalk and Drogheda (both run by V&W Recycling) charge a €4 entry plus item charges that aren’t published online, and the annual mattress-and-couch amnesty in early September is the only free route for furniture.

Drogheda and Dundalk both have Victorian town-centre terraces, 1950s–70s council-built estates and large 2000s developments on the edges, plus apartment schemes near the stations and the quays. Ardee, Dunleer and the villages are smaller-scale, with farmhouses and bungalows on their own sites across mid-Louth and the Cooley peninsula. Town-centre parking in Drogheda and Dundalk is the main access issue.

Doing it yourself in Louth: what the council offers

Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Louth County Council will and won’t do for junk removal. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Dundalk Recycling Centre (V&W Civic Amenity Centre) and Drogheda Recycling Centre (V&W Civic Amenity Centre). Electrical items — fridges, washing machines, TVs, computers — are free to drop at every council site as WEEE, and we take them as part of any job. Watch the vehicle rules: Cars and car trailers admitted (trailer charge applies for green waste); no commercial vehicles or commercial waste. Van policy not published - ring ahead.

Louth County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Louth County Council does not collect household waste or bulky items and has no bookable bulky-waste service. It directs residents to the two civic amenity centres in Dundalk and Drogheda, both run by V&W Recycling, where beds, couches, carpet/lino, children's toys and bags of non-recyclable domestic waste are accepted for a charge (ring 042 9329200 or 041 9803900 for the price list - V&W do not publish bulky prices online), or to the nine authorised bulky-waste / skip operators the council lists (e.g. Pronto Waste Clearance & Recycling 087 2912911, Skips on Wheels 083 1552410). Once a year, under the Anti-Dumping Initiative, the council runs a free Mattress & Couch Amnesty, normally over two days in early September: in 2025 it was Wed 3 September 9:30am–5:30pm at the V&W centres in Dundalk and Drogheda and Thu 4 September 9:30am–3:30pm at Kieran & McGee Livestock Sales Yard, Ardee (A92 VP92); in 2024 it was 11–12 September at the same three locations. Only mattresses, sofas and armchairs are taken, maximum 3 items per vehicle, the council covers the disposal cost but the normal €4 entry charge still applies at Dundalk and Drogheda (Ardee is free). The 2025 event took in 2,233 mattresses and 2,124 couches. Dates are announced on louthcoco.ie and in the Dundalk Democrat / Drogheda Independent in August.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.

Or we come to you

Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.

How junk removal works with us

  1. Photo. One photo of the pile is usually enough.
  2. Price. Fixed price back the same day, often within the hour.
  3. Collection. We load it. You don’t have to carry anything to the road.
  4. Gone. Sorted on the truck, disposed of under our permit.

Junk Removal in Louth: frequently asked questions

Is it cheaper than a skip?

For most household jobs, yes. A skip is a fixed size you may not fill, needs a permit if it goes on the road, and sits for days. We charge for what we take and we load it. For a genuinely huge job a skip can win — we’ll tell you.

Do I have to carry it to the road?

No. We take it from where it is — the attic, the back garden, the third floor.

Do you take mattresses and fridges?

Yes. Both carry a disposal charge, which we show on the quote. Council sites charge for mattresses too; fridges are free at the council as WEEE.

How quickly can you come?

Small jobs usually within a day or two; same day is sometimes possible.

Where does it go?

Sorted on the truck; reusable items set aside; recyclables recycled; the rest to authorised facilities under permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. You can have the details for the load.

Do you cover all of Louth?

Yes — every town and village on this page and the rural addresses between.

Can you collect from outside if nobody is home?

Yes — leave it in the garden, the driveway or the garage with the door open, send us a photo, and we collect and send a photo of the space clear.

Do you take builders’ rubble?

Small amounts, bagged — a few bags from a DIY job, yes. A skip-load of rubble is better with a grab lorry and we’ll say so.

Do you take garden waste as well as junk?

Yes — kept separate on the truck so the green waste is composted. See the garden waste page for Louth if that’s the main job.

What’s the smallest job you’ll do?

One item. A mattress, a fridge, a sofa. We fit small jobs into runs so they stay cheap.

Do you cover rural Louth?

Yes — every townland, not just the towns on this page. A long lane and a gate are normal for us.

Does Louth County Council collect bulky items?

No. Louth County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.

How far is Louth from your base?

Louth is the furthest county we cover — Drogheda is about an hour and a half from Athy, Ardee and Dunleer a little more, and Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula around two hours. We run Louth jobs in batches, usually one or two days a fortnight, so we can keep the price fair; the trade-off is that we’ll offer you a date rather than a same-week slot.
