Old furniture is the single most common thing we collect. It doesn’t fit the car, the shop that delivered the new one wouldn’t take the old one, and it’s too good — or too heavy — to leave out for someone to take. Offaly has no council collection for bulky furniture, so the choice is a van trip to the recycling centre or a collection from us.
We collect from inside the house, dismantle what needs dismantling, and set good pieces aside for reuse. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. Offaly is closer to us than people expect: Edenderry is 40 minutes from Athy, Tullamore about an hour, Clara and Kilcormac a little more, and Birr, Banagher and the Shannon villages about an hour and a quarter. We’re in Offaly most weeks, so there’s usually a slot within a few days.

Clearing a house of furniture in Offaly
When it’s all the furniture — a house being sold empty, a rental being refurnished, a move where nothing is coming — we treat it as a furniture-only clearance: every piece out, dismantled where needed, loaded in an order that protects what can be reused. Good solid furniture, especially hardwood pieces and sound upholstery, is set aside for reuse where we can arrange it, which reduces the disposal cost and we pass that on. Flat-pack rarely survives disassembly and goes for recycling as timber and metal. A house-worth of furniture is typically a half-day and one load.
Single pieces and small furniture collections
One sofa. A bed and mattress. The wardrobe. The dining table and six chairs. These are quick stops and we price them as such, and we try to fit them into a run already going through Offaly so the price stays sensible. We can time it to the day your new furniture arrives — out with the old in the morning, in with the new in the afternoon.
What we take — and what we don’t
- Sofas, armchairs, recliners and sofa beds
- Beds, bed frames, mattresses and divans
- Wardrobes, chests of drawers, dressers and sideboards
- Dining tables, chairs, desks and bookcases
- Garden furniture
- Flat-pack furniture — dismantled and recycled
- Office furniture from home offices
- Carrying from any room and any floor
Not included: Pianos and safes (ask — we can arrange specialist movers); Furniture you want moved to another address (that’s a removals job, not disposal — though we can advise).
Furniture Removal across Co. Offaly: every town we cover
We provide furniture removal in all 37 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Offaly runs from the Kildare border at Edenderry across the bog country to the Shannon at Banagher and Shannonbridge, with Tullamore in the middle, Birr in the south-west and Clara, Ferbane and Kilcormac between. Offaly County Council has no bulky-waste collection but it does run three civic amenity sites — Derryclure outside Tullamore, Birr and Edenderry — all with a €3 car entry: Derryclure weighs furniture at 19c a kilo, while Birr and Edenderry charge per couch, armchair and bag, and Edenderry takes no garden waste, timber or rubble at all.
Tullamore has Georgian and Victorian terraces around the canal, 1960s–80s estates and big 2000s developments; Edenderry grew fast as a commuter town; Birr is a Georgian heritage town with tight streets; and the rest of the county is farmhouses, bungalows and villages with plenty of sheds. The old bog-village cottages often come with decades of accumulation.

Doing it yourself in Offaly: what the council offers
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Offaly County Council will and won’t do for furniture removal. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Derryclure Civic Amenity Site & Waste Recycling Facility and Edenderry Recycling Centre, with mattresses charged separately (Mattress €10 single / €18 double). Birr Recycling Centre does not accept furniture or mattresses at all. Watch the vehicle rules: Small vans (€10) and large vans (€20) admitted; single-axle trailer €10, double-axle €20; domestic waste only.
Offaly County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Offaly County Council does not run a household or bulky-waste kerbside collection. Bin collection is by private permitted collectors, and bulky items (furniture, mattresses, carpets) go to one of the three council civic amenity sites at Tullamore (Derryclure), Birr and Edenderry, all operated for the council by Oxigen Environmental, or are taken away by an authorised private collector. The council runs periodic free Mattress Amnesty days with Cirtex and Oxigen: in September 2025 one Saturday (10am to 2pm) at each of Birr, Edenderry and Derryclure, limit four mattresses per household, householders only, no commercial users.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.
Or we come to you
Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.

Furniture Removal in Offaly: frequently asked questions
Can you take just one item?
Yes. Single-item collections are a large part of what we do in Offaly. We fit them into runs to keep them cheap.
Will you take it from upstairs?
Yes, from any room on any floor, with the walls and door frames protected. Tell us the floor.
Can you take the old one the day the new one arrives?
Yes — book us for the morning and the delivery for the afternoon.
What happens to good furniture?
Reused where we can arrange it. It lowers your price and keeps it out of landfill. Tell us if there’s a charity you’d like us to try.
Do you take mattresses?
Yes, with a per-mattress disposal charge shown on the quote — the same charge the council sites apply where they accept them.
Do you cover every town in Offaly?
Yes — every town on this page and the addresses in between.
Can you take a wardrobe that was built in the room?
Yes — we dismantle it. Fitted wardrobes are unscrewed from the wall and taken in panels; freestanding ones come apart the same way.
Do you take garden and patio furniture?
Yes — rattan, metal, timber, parasols, and the cover that blew away. Timber and metal are recycled separately.
Can you collect from a storage unit or a garage?
Yes. Tell us the location and access, and we collect from there instead of the house.
Do you take office furniture from a home office?
Yes — desks, chairs, filing cabinets and bookcases from home offices are a common collection.
Is there a minimum charge for furniture collection in Offaly?
A single-item collection is priced as a short stop, not a full clearance. In Offaly we fit single items into runs to keep the price down.
Does Offaly County Council collect bulky items?
No. Offaly County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.
