Flat Clearance in Co. Meath
Flats in converted houses, over shops, in older complexes — no lift, a narrow stairs, a front door straight onto the street. Different from a modern apartment block, and we clear them differently.

When people in Meath say “flat” they usually mean something older than an apartment: the top floor of a converted Victorian or Georgian house, a bedsit, a flat over a shop on the main street, or a unit in a council flat complex. There’s no lift and no loading bay. The stairs are steep and turn twice. The front door opens onto the footpath and the only parking is on the street outside — if you’re lucky. The furniture may have been built in the room because it won’t fit back down the stairs.
That’s a different job from a purpose-built apartment, and it’s one we know well. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01, fully insured. Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters. We cover it by grouping Meath jobs on set days each week, so a one-off job here is priced as part of a round rather than a special trip.

Full flat clearance in Meath
Every room emptied, including the shared landing cupboard if it’s yours and the coal-hole or basement store if there is one. We bring a crew sized for the stairs — a flat on the third floor of a converted house is a three-person job however small it is — and we dismantle what has to be dismantled: wardrobes, bed frames, the sofa that was carried up before the stair rail went in. We protect the stair walls and the door frames in the common hall because the other residents and the landlord will notice if we don’t. The truck is parked as close as the street allows and we carry in a steady run so nothing is left on the footpath.
Full flat clearances are typically a half-day for a bedsit or one-bed, a full day for a large two- or three-bed conversion with years of contents.
Partial flat clearance in Meath
Often it’s one piece — the mattress, the sofa, the fridge — that a tenant can’t get down the stairs and the landlord can’t leave in the hall. We do single-item and few-item flat jobs all the time, and we price them for what they are: an hour’s work with a van, not a house clearance. For landlords with several flats in one building we’ll do the lot in one visit and split the invoice per unit.
What we take — and what we don’t
- Beds, mattresses, sofas, wardrobes — including dismantling on the spot
- Fridges, cookers, washing machines (WEEE)
- The contents of a bedsit or flat, boxed or loose
- Carpets, lino, curtains and blinds
- Items left behind by tenants, in the flat or the common hall
- Rubbish and bagged waste
- Bikes, prams and the things that live under the stairs
Not included: Hazardous waste; Structural fixtures that belong to the building (fitted kitchens, radiators) unless the landlord instructs it.
Flat Clearance across Co. Meath: every town we cover
We provide a flat clearance in all 52 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Meath is big and busy: the commuter towns along the Dublin border (Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Clonee) grew enormously in the 2000s; Navan, Trim and Kells are the old market towns in the middle; the coast strip from Laytown to Mornington looks to Drogheda; and the north and west — Oldcastle, Nobber, Athboy, Enfield — is rural and quiet. Meath County Council runs no bulky-waste collection. Its three recycling centres (Navan, Kells, Trim) charge a flat gate fee plus a price per item of furniture, and there is no council site at all in east Meath — people in Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunboyne and the coast are sent to Dunboyne’s private facility or across the county line.
Expect large 2000s estates of semis and townhouses in the commuter towns, plenty of apartment schemes in Ashbourne, Navan and Dunboyne with management-company rules, Georgian and Victorian terraces in Navan, Trim and Kells town centres, and farmhouses with yards and outbuildings across the rest of the county. Long driveways and rural lanes are more of a factor here than parking.

Doing it yourself in Meath: what the council offers
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Meath County Council will and won’t do for a flat clearance. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Navan Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), Kells Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site) and Trim Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), with mattresses charged separately (Per item on top of the gate fee: single mattress €15, double €20, king €25 (Oxigen's own list says €30), mattress topper/duvet €5–€10, single divan €10, double divan €15, 3-seater couch €20, 2-seater €15, corner couch €35, armchair €12, patio table €10, patio chair €5, large carpet/lino roll €25, small roll €15, bag of carpet/lino €5, standard refuse sack of mixed domestic or non-recyclable waste €5, large plastic toy €5, toilet/cistern/basin €5, bath/shower tray €10). Dunboyne Recycling Facility (Thorntons Recycling) does not accept furniture or mattresses at all. Watch the vehicle rules: Cars, vans and trailers admitted; vans and trailers pay load-based rates (green waste small van €10, large van €50). Commercial vehicles charged separately (timber €40 per van or €1.50 per pallet, scrap metal €50 per load, cardboard €30 per van, paper €40 per van). Fair-usage policy applies.
Meath County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Meath County Council does not collect household or bulky waste from homes and does not run a bookable bulky-item collection. Bulky household waste is to be brought to the three council recycling centres at Navan, Kells and Trim (run under contract by Oxigen Environmental), where it is charged per item on top of a €2 gate fee, or to Thorntons Dunboyne. Alternatively use an authorised private collector (check the NWCPO permit register). The council does run several free amnesty / drop-off weeks each year: a free mattress drop-off (typically April; e.g. Navan 18 April, Trim 19 April, Thorntons Dunboyne 19 April, Kells 20 April in 2024), a free bulky-furniture week in late July/August (couches, beds, chairs, tables, wardrobes, outdoor furniture, garden equipment, toys, trampolines, flooring, sanitary ware - mattresses excluded) rotating through Navan, Trim, Kells and Dunboyne, and a Halloween anti-bonfire drop-off in late October (furniture suites, beds, divans, bed frames, flooring, duvets, pillows, toys, doors, windows - no mattresses, paint, domestic or green waste). Rules: householders only, Meath residents only (bring photo ID plus a utility bill or driving licence), no commercial customers, and the €2 gate fee still applies. The council said in April 2026 the mattress amnesty and a sofa amnesty would run again in 2026; dates are announced on meath.ie, the council's social media and in the Meath Chronicle, and enquiries go to environment@meathcoco.ie.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.
Or we come to you
Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.
How a flat clearance works with us
Photos and the stairs. Send photos and tell us the floor, whether the stairs turn, and the parking situation. A photo of the stairs helps more than you’d think.
Quote and date. Fixed price, agreed date, and a note of anything to be kept or returned to the landlord.
The clearance. Crew sized for the building, walls and frames protected, steady carry to the truck, footpath kept clear.
Done. Flat swept, hall left as found, photos sent.

What affects the price in Meath
Floor and stairs — the single biggest factor for a flat
Parking — a street with no stopping means a longer carry and more time
Dismantling — furniture that must come apart to leave adds time
Volume — most flats are a half-day; long-let bedsits can surprise you
Reuse — good pieces reduce disposal cost
Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters. We cover it by grouping Meath jobs on set days each week, so a one-off job here is priced as part of a round rather than a special trip. Send photos through the quote form or on WhatsApp and you’ll have a fixed price the same day.

Flat Clearance in Meath: frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between a flat clearance and an apartment clearance?
Access. A flat in a converted house or over a shop has stairs, no lift, and street parking; a purpose-built apartment has a lift, a management company and a loading bay. The furniture is the same, the job isn’t — so we have a separate page for apartments in Meath.
The wardrobe won’t fit down the stairs.
It will once we take it apart. We dismantle on site as standard — wardrobes, beds, large tables, the occasional sofa — and it’s included in the price.
I’m a landlord with a tenant’s things left behind. Can you clear it?
Yes. Make sure you’ve followed the proper notice process for abandoned belongings first — we can’t advise on that — and then we’ll clear the flat and the hall and photograph it empty for your file.
Can you clear a flat in a council complex?
Yes. We work in flat complexes regularly. Tell us the block and any access arrangements, and we’ll keep the stairwells and landings clear while we work.
Do you take mattresses?
Yes. Mattresses are the most common single item we take from flats. They go for recycling; the council sites that accept them charge per mattress, which is shown lower down this page.
Do you cover all of Meath?
Yes — every town and village on this page and the addresses in between. Above-shop flats on main streets are a particular speciality because of the parking.
Can you work around the other residents?
Yes. We keep the stairs and hall clear, work in a steady carry rather than stacking in the hall, protect the walls, and let the other flats know we’ll be in and out for a couple of hours.
The flat is above a shop and the only door is on the street.
Common, and fine. We time the job for parking, run a short carry to the van, and keep the footpath clear. Tell us if there’s a loading bay or a back lane.
Do you take carpets and lino?
Yes — lifted and taken, including the underlay and the grippers if you want the floor bare for the landlord.
Can you clear a bedsit that’s been let for twenty years?
Yes. Long lets accumulate more than people expect, and bedsits can need two visits if the stairs are bad. We price it after photos and tell you honestly if it’s more than it looks.
How soon can you do a flat in Meath?
Usually within the week; small jobs can be added to a Meath run already scheduled.
Does Meath County Council collect bulky items?
No. Meath County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.
How far is Meath from your base?
Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters. We cover it by grouping Meath jobs on set days each week, so a one-off job here is priced as part of a round rather than a special trip.
