Furniture Removal in Co. Meath

The sofa that’s done, the bed that’s been replaced, the wardrobe that won’t come apart. Collected from inside the house, reused where it can be, recycled where it can’t — across Meath.

Old sofa being carried out for furniture removal in Meath

Old furniture is the single most common thing we collect. It doesn’t fit the car, the shop that delivered the new one wouldn’t take the old one, and it’s too good — or too heavy — to leave out for someone to take. Meath has no council collection for bulky furniture, so the choice is a van trip to the recycling centre or a collection from us.

We collect from inside the house, dismantle what needs dismantling, and set good pieces aside for reuse. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters. We cover it by grouping Meath jobs on set days each week, so a one-off job here is priced as part of a round rather than a special trip.

Clearing a house of furniture in Meath

When it’s all the furniture — a house being sold empty, a rental being refurnished, a move where nothing is coming — we treat it as a furniture-only clearance: every piece out, dismantled where needed, loaded in an order that protects what can be reused. Good solid furniture, especially hardwood pieces and sound upholstery, is set aside for reuse where we can arrange it, which reduces the disposal cost and we pass that on. Flat-pack rarely survives disassembly and goes for recycling as timber and metal. A house-worth of furniture is typically a half-day and one load.

Single pieces and small furniture collections

One sofa. A bed and mattress. The wardrobe. The dining table and six chairs. These are quick stops and we price them as such, and we try to fit them into a run already going through Meath so the price stays sensible. We can time it to the day your new furniture arrives — out with the old in the morning, in with the new in the afternoon.

What we take — and what we don’t

  • Sofas, armchairs, recliners and sofa beds
  • Beds, bed frames, mattresses and divans
  • Wardrobes, chests of drawers, dressers and sideboards
  • Dining tables, chairs, desks and bookcases
  • Garden furniture
  • Flat-pack furniture — dismantled and recycled
  • Office furniture from home offices
  • Carrying from any room and any floor

Not included: Pianos and safes (ask — we can arrange specialist movers); Furniture you want moved to another address (that’s a removals job, not disposal — though we can advise).

Furniture Removal across Co. Meath: every town we cover

We provide furniture removal in all 52 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Meath is big and busy: the commuter towns along the Dublin border (Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Clonee) grew enormously in the 2000s; Navan, Trim and Kells are the old market towns in the middle; the coast strip from Laytown to Mornington looks to Drogheda; and the north and west — Oldcastle, Nobber, Athboy, Enfield — is rural and quiet. Meath County Council runs no bulky-waste collection. Its three recycling centres (Navan, Kells, Trim) charge a flat gate fee plus a price per item of furniture, and there is no council site at all in east Meath — people in Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunboyne and the coast are sent to Dunboyne’s private facility or across the county line.

Expect large 2000s estates of semis and townhouses in the commuter towns, plenty of apartment schemes in Ashbourne, Navan and Dunboyne with management-company rules, Georgian and Victorian terraces in Navan, Trim and Kells town centres, and farmhouses with yards and outbuildings across the rest of the county. Long driveways and rural lanes are more of a factor here than parking.

Doing it yourself in Meath: what the council offers

Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Meath County Council will and won’t do for furniture removal. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Navan Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), Kells Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site) and Trim Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), with mattresses charged separately (Per item on top of the gate fee: single mattress €15, double €20, king €25 (Oxigen's own list says €30), mattress topper/duvet €5–€10, single divan €10, double divan €15, 3-seater couch €20, 2-seater €15, corner couch €35, armchair €12, patio table €10, patio chair €5, large carpet/lino roll €25, small roll €15, bag of carpet/lino €5, standard refuse sack of mixed domestic or non-recyclable waste €5, large plastic toy €5, toilet/cistern/basin €5, bath/shower tray €10). Dunboyne Recycling Facility (Thorntons Recycling) does not accept furniture or mattresses at all. Watch the vehicle rules: Cars, vans and trailers admitted; vans and trailers pay load-based rates (green waste small van €10, large van €50). Commercial vehicles charged separately (timber €40 per van or €1.50 per pallet, scrap metal €50 per load, cardboard €30 per van, paper €40 per van). Fair-usage policy applies.

Meath County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Meath County Council does not collect household or bulky waste from homes and does not run a bookable bulky-item collection. Bulky household waste is to be brought to the three council recycling centres at Navan, Kells and Trim (run under contract by Oxigen Environmental), where it is charged per item on top of a €2 gate fee, or to Thorntons Dunboyne. Alternatively use an authorised private collector (check the NWCPO permit register). The council does run several free amnesty / drop-off weeks each year: a free mattress drop-off (typically April; e.g. Navan 18 April, Trim 19 April, Thorntons Dunboyne 19 April, Kells 20 April in 2024), a free bulky-furniture week in late July/August (couches, beds, chairs, tables, wardrobes, outdoor furniture, garden equipment, toys, trampolines, flooring, sanitary ware - mattresses excluded) rotating through Navan, Trim, Kells and Dunboyne, and a Halloween anti-bonfire drop-off in late October (furniture suites, beds, divans, bed frames, flooring, duvets, pillows, toys, doors, windows - no mattresses, paint, domestic or green waste). Rules: householders only, Meath residents only (bring photo ID plus a utility bill or driving licence), no commercial customers, and the €2 gate fee still applies. The council said in April 2026 the mattress amnesty and a sofa amnesty would run again in 2026; dates are announced on meath.ie, the council's social media and in the Meath Chronicle, and enquiries go to environment@meathcoco.ie.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.

Or we come to you

Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.

How furniture removal works with us

  1. Photo. A photo of each piece and which floor it’s on.
  2. Price. Fixed price per item or per load, same day.
  3. Collection. We carry it out, dismantling if needed, walls and door frames protected.
  4. Reuse or recycle. Good pieces set aside for reuse; the rest recycled by material.

  • Number and size of pieces
  • Floor and stairs
  • Dismantling — wardrobes and beds built in the room
  • Reuse — good furniture lowers the cost
  • Route — collections in an area we’re already visiting are cheaper

Furniture Removal in Meath: frequently asked questions

Can you take just one item?

Yes. Single-item collections are a large part of what we do in Meath. We fit them into runs to keep them cheap.

Will you take it from upstairs?

Yes, from any room on any floor, with the walls and door frames protected. Tell us the floor.

Can you take the old one the day the new one arrives?

Yes — book us for the morning and the delivery for the afternoon.

What happens to good furniture?

Reused where we can arrange it. It lowers your price and keeps it out of landfill. Tell us if there’s a charity you’d like us to try.

Do you take mattresses?

Yes, with a per-mattress disposal charge shown on the quote — the same charge the council sites apply where they accept them.

Do you cover every town in Meath?

Yes — every town on this page and the addresses in between.

Can you take a wardrobe that was built in the room?

Yes — we dismantle it. Fitted wardrobes are unscrewed from the wall and taken in panels; freestanding ones come apart the same way.

Do you take garden and patio furniture?

Yes — rattan, metal, timber, parasols, and the cover that blew away. Timber and metal are recycled separately.

Can you collect from a storage unit or a garage?

Yes. Tell us the location and access, and we collect from there instead of the house.

Do you take office furniture from a home office?

Yes — desks, chairs, filing cabinets and bookcases from home offices are a common collection.

Is there a minimum charge for furniture collection in Meath?

A single-item collection is priced as a short stop, not a full clearance. In Meath we fit single items into runs to keep the price down.

Does Meath County Council collect bulky items?

No. Meath County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.

How far is Meath from your base?

Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters.
