Flat Clearance in Co. Louth
Flats in converted houses, over shops, in older complexes — no lift, a narrow stairs, a front door straight onto the street. Different from a modern apartment block, and we clear them differently.

When people in Louth say “flat” they usually mean something older than an apartment: the top floor of a converted Victorian or Georgian house, a bedsit, a flat over a shop on the main street, or a unit in a council flat complex. There’s no lift and no loading bay. The stairs are steep and turn twice. The front door opens onto the footpath and the only parking is on the street outside — if you’re lucky. The furniture may have been built in the room because it won’t fit back down the stairs.
That’s a different job from a purpose-built apartment, and it’s one we know well. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01, fully insured. Louth is the furthest county we cover — Drogheda is about an hour and a half from Athy, Ardee and Dunleer a little more, and Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula around two hours. We run Louth jobs in batches, usually one or two days a fortnight, so we can keep the price fair; the trade-off is that we’ll offer you a date rather than a same-week slot.

Full flat clearance in Louth
Every room emptied, including the shared landing cupboard if it’s yours and the coal-hole or basement store if there is one. We bring a crew sized for the stairs — a flat on the third floor of a converted house is a three-person job however small it is — and we dismantle what has to be dismantled: wardrobes, bed frames, the sofa that was carried up before the stair rail went in. We protect the stair walls and the door frames in the common hall because the other residents and the landlord will notice if we don’t. The truck is parked as close as the street allows and we carry in a steady run so nothing is left on the footpath.
Full flat clearances are typically a half-day for a bedsit or one-bed, a full day for a large two- or three-bed conversion with years of contents.
Partial flat clearance in Louth
Often it’s one piece — the mattress, the sofa, the fridge — that a tenant can’t get down the stairs and the landlord can’t leave in the hall. We do single-item and few-item flat jobs all the time, and we price them for what they are: an hour’s work with a van, not a house clearance. For landlords with several flats in one building we’ll do the lot in one visit and split the invoice per unit.
What we take — and what we don’t
- Beds, mattresses, sofas, wardrobes — including dismantling on the spot
- Fridges, cookers, washing machines (WEEE)
- The contents of a bedsit or flat, boxed or loose
- Carpets, lino, curtains and blinds
- Items left behind by tenants, in the flat or the common hall
- Rubbish and bagged waste
- Bikes, prams and the things that live under the stairs
Not included: Hazardous waste; Structural fixtures that belong to the building (fitted kitchens, radiators) unless the landlord instructs it.
Flat Clearance across Co. Louth: every town we cover
We provide a flat clearance in all 29 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Louth is Ireland’s smallest county but it has two of its biggest towns: Drogheda in the south, straddling the Boyne, and Dundalk in the north under the Cooley mountains, with Ardee, Dunleer and the Castlebellingham villages between them and a run of coastal villages from Baltray up to Carlingford and Omeath. Louth County Council does not collect bulky waste. Its two civic amenity centres at Dundalk and Drogheda (both run by V&W Recycling) charge a €4 entry plus item charges that aren’t published online, and the annual mattress-and-couch amnesty in early September is the only free route for furniture.
Drogheda and Dundalk both have Victorian town-centre terraces, 1950s–70s council-built estates and large 2000s developments on the edges, plus apartment schemes near the stations and the quays. Ardee, Dunleer and the villages are smaller-scale, with farmhouses and bungalows on their own sites across mid-Louth and the Cooley peninsula. Town-centre parking in Drogheda and Dundalk is the main access issue.

Doing it yourself in Louth: what the council offers
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Louth County Council will and won’t do for a flat clearance. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Dundalk Recycling Centre (V&W Civic Amenity Centre) and Drogheda Recycling Centre (V&W Civic Amenity Centre). Watch the vehicle rules: Cars and car trailers admitted (trailer charge applies for green waste); no commercial vehicles or commercial waste. Van policy not published - ring ahead.
Louth County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Louth County Council does not collect household waste or bulky items and has no bookable bulky-waste service. It directs residents to the two civic amenity centres in Dundalk and Drogheda, both run by V&W Recycling, where beds, couches, carpet/lino, children's toys and bags of non-recyclable domestic waste are accepted for a charge (ring 042 9329200 or 041 9803900 for the price list - V&W do not publish bulky prices online), or to the nine authorised bulky-waste / skip operators the council lists (e.g. Pronto Waste Clearance & Recycling 087 2912911, Skips on Wheels 083 1552410). Once a year, under the Anti-Dumping Initiative, the council runs a free Mattress & Couch Amnesty, normally over two days in early September: in 2025 it was Wed 3 September 9:30am–5:30pm at the V&W centres in Dundalk and Drogheda and Thu 4 September 9:30am–3:30pm at Kieran & McGee Livestock Sales Yard, Ardee (A92 VP92); in 2024 it was 11–12 September at the same three locations. Only mattresses, sofas and armchairs are taken, maximum 3 items per vehicle, the council covers the disposal cost but the normal €4 entry charge still applies at Dundalk and Drogheda (Ardee is free). The 2025 event took in 2,233 mattresses and 2,124 couches. Dates are announced on louthcoco.ie and in the Dundalk Democrat / Drogheda Independent in August.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.
Or we come to you
Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.
How a flat clearance works with us
Photos and the stairs. Send photos and tell us the floor, whether the stairs turn, and the parking situation. A photo of the stairs helps more than you’d think.
Quote and date. Fixed price, agreed date, and a note of anything to be kept or returned to the landlord.
The clearance. Crew sized for the building, walls and frames protected, steady carry to the truck, footpath kept clear.
Done. Flat swept, hall left as found, photos sent.

What affects the price in Louth
Floor and stairs — the single biggest factor for a flat
Parking — a street with no stopping means a longer carry and more time
Dismantling — furniture that must come apart to leave adds time
Volume — most flats are a half-day; long-let bedsits can surprise you
Reuse — good pieces reduce disposal cost

Flat Clearance in Louth: frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between a flat clearance and an apartment clearance?
Access. A flat in a converted house or over a shop has stairs, no lift, and street parking; a purpose-built apartment has a lift, a management company and a loading bay. The furniture is the same, the job isn’t — so we have a separate page for apartments in Louth.
The wardrobe won’t fit down the stairs.
It will once we take it apart. We dismantle on site as standard — wardrobes, beds, large tables, the occasional sofa — and it’s included in the price.
I’m a landlord with a tenant’s things left behind. Can you clear it?
Yes. Make sure you’ve followed the proper notice process for abandoned belongings first — we can’t advise on that — and then we’ll clear the flat and the hall and photograph it empty for your file.
Can you clear a flat in a council complex?
Yes. We work in flat complexes regularly. Tell us the block and any access arrangements, and we’ll keep the stairwells and landings clear while we work.
Do you take mattresses?
Yes. Mattresses are the most common single item we take from flats. They go for recycling; the council sites that accept them charge per mattress, which is shown lower down this page.
Do you cover all of Louth?
Yes — every town and village on this page and the addresses in between. Above-shop flats on main streets are a particular speciality because of the parking.
Can you work around the other residents?
Yes. We keep the stairs and hall clear, work in a steady carry rather than stacking in the hall, protect the walls, and let the other flats know we’ll be in and out for a couple of hours.
The flat is above a shop and the only door is on the street.
Common, and fine. We time the job for parking, run a short carry to the van, and keep the footpath clear. Tell us if there’s a loading bay or a back lane.
Do you take carpets and lino?
Yes — lifted and taken, including the underlay and the grippers if you want the floor bare for the landlord.
Can you clear a bedsit that’s been let for twenty years?
Yes. Long lets accumulate more than people expect, and bedsits can need two visits if the stairs are bad. We price it after photos and tell you honestly if it’s more than it looks.
How soon can you do a flat in Louth?
Usually within the week; small jobs can be added to a Louth run already scheduled.
Does Louth County Council collect bulky items?
No. Louth County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.
How far is Louth from your base?
Louth is the furthest county we cover — Drogheda is about an hour and a half from Athy, Ardee and Dunleer a little more, and Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula around two hours. We run Louth jobs in batches, usually one or two days a fortnight, so we can keep the price fair; the trade-off is that we’ll offer you a date rather than a same-week slot.
