There is no good time to clear a house after a death. There is often a deadline — a sale, a tenancy ending, a council or landlord wanting the keys, probate that can’t move until the house is empty — and there is almost always more in the house than anyone expected. Families divide between the ones who want it done and the ones who can’t face it, and the one who lives nearest ends up with the job.
We’ve done a great many of these. The crew is briefed to be quiet and careful; nobody comments on anything; paperwork, photographs, jewellery and anything that looks personal is set aside without being asked; and we work on the days and at the pace the family can manage. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01, and we can deal directly with the executor or solicitor if that’s easier for you. Louth is the furthest county we cover — Drogheda is about an hour and a half from Athy, Ardee and Dunleer a little more, and Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula around two hours. We run Louth jobs in batches, usually one or two days a fortnight, so we can keep the price fair; the trade-off is that we’ll offer you a date rather than a same-week slot.

Full bereavement house clearance in Louth
The whole house, when the family is ready. We walk through with you first — in person or on a video call — and you tell us what’s being kept, what’s going to family, and what you’d like a charity to have. We clear in an order that makes sense: the rooms you’re finished with first, the ones you want to go through last. Personal effects are collected in one place as we go: documents, photographs, letters, medals, jewellery, anything with a name on it. Good furniture and household goods go for reuse where we can arrange it. The house is left empty and swept, and we send photographs of every room.
If probate requires an inventory or a letter confirming the clearance, we provide it. If the house has been empty a while, we deal with what that brings.
Partial bereavement clearance in Louth
Many families do this in stages: the bulky furniture now so the house can be shown; the attic and the shed next; the personal rooms when they’re ready. We’re glad to work that way. We’ll clear what you ask and leave everything else exactly as it is, and come back when you call. There’s no pressure to do it all at once and no penalty for doing it in three visits.
What we take — and what we don’t
- Furniture, beds, mattresses and the contents of every room
- Personal effects — gathered, boxed and kept for the family
- Clothes and textiles — sorted for charity where possible
- Kitchen contents, appliances and white goods
- Medical equipment, mobility aids, hospital beds (we can arrange return where they’re on loan)
- Attic, garage, shed and garden
- Paperwork — set aside unread for the executor
- Cleaning to broom-clean standard, with a full clean available
Not included: Valuing or selling contents (we can suggest auctioneers); Legal advice on probate or tenancy — ask your solicitor; Hazardous waste.
Bereavement Clearance across Co. Louth: every town we cover
We provide a bereavement clearance in all 29 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Louth is Ireland’s smallest county but it has two of its biggest towns: Drogheda in the south, straddling the Boyne, and Dundalk in the north under the Cooley mountains, with Ardee, Dunleer and the Castlebellingham villages between them and a run of coastal villages from Baltray up to Carlingford and Omeath. Louth County Council does not collect bulky waste. Its two civic amenity centres at Dundalk and Drogheda (both run by V&W Recycling) charge a €4 entry plus item charges that aren’t published online, and the annual mattress-and-couch amnesty in early September is the only free route for furniture.
Drogheda and Dundalk both have Victorian town-centre terraces, 1950s–70s council-built estates and large 2000s developments on the edges, plus apartment schemes near the stations and the quays. Ardee, Dunleer and the villages are smaller-scale, with farmhouses and bungalows on their own sites across mid-Louth and the Cooley peninsula. Town-centre parking in Drogheda and Dundalk is the main access issue.

Doing it yourself in Louth: what the council offers
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Louth County Council will and won’t do for a bereavement clearance. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Dundalk Recycling Centre (V&W Civic Amenity Centre) and Drogheda Recycling Centre (V&W Civic Amenity Centre). Watch the vehicle rules: Cars and car trailers admitted (trailer charge applies for green waste); no commercial vehicles or commercial waste. Van policy not published - ring ahead.
Louth County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Louth County Council does not collect household waste or bulky items and has no bookable bulky-waste service. It directs residents to the two civic amenity centres in Dundalk and Drogheda, both run by V&W Recycling, where beds, couches, carpet/lino, children's toys and bags of non-recyclable domestic waste are accepted for a charge (ring 042 9329200 or 041 9803900 for the price list - V&W do not publish bulky prices online), or to the nine authorised bulky-waste / skip operators the council lists (e.g. Pronto Waste Clearance & Recycling 087 2912911, Skips on Wheels 083 1552410). Once a year, under the Anti-Dumping Initiative, the council runs a free Mattress & Couch Amnesty, normally over two days in early September: in 2025 it was Wed 3 September 9:30am–5:30pm at the V&W centres in Dundalk and Drogheda and Thu 4 September 9:30am–3:30pm at Kieran & McGee Livestock Sales Yard, Ardee (A92 VP92); in 2024 it was 11–12 September at the same three locations. Only mattresses, sofas and armchairs are taken, maximum 3 items per vehicle, the council covers the disposal cost but the normal €4 entry charge still applies at Dundalk and Drogheda (Ardee is free). The 2025 event took in 2,233 mattresses and 2,124 couches. Dates are announced on louthcoco.ie and in the Dundalk Democrat / Drogheda Independent in August.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.
Or we come to you
Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.
How a bereavement clearance works with us
A conversation first. By phone or in person. We listen to what’s needed, who needs to be involved, and what the timing is.
Walk-through and a plan. What’s kept, what’s going where, what order the rooms go in. Written down so everyone in the family has it.
The clearance. Quiet, careful, at your pace. Personal items gathered. Reuse arranged where possible.
Handover. Photos of every room, keys returned as agreed, a clearance letter for probate if needed.

What affects the price in Louth
Volume — a lifetime’s belongings is usually more than one load
Access and stairs
Reuse and charity — good furniture reduces the disposal cost and we pass it on
Staged visits — several small visits cost a little more than one, but we keep it fair
A full clean, if wanted, is quoted separately

Bereavement Clearance in Louth: frequently asked questions
How soon after the funeral should we do this?
Only when you’re ready. There’s no right time. If there’s a deadline from a landlord, a sale or a solicitor we’ll work to it; if there isn’t, take the time you need and call us when you’re ready.
Will the crew be respectful?
Yes. They’re briefed before every bereavement job, they work quietly, and nothing is commented on. Many customers tell us afterwards that it was easier than they feared because of how the crew behaved.
What if we find something we want to keep after you’ve left?
Ring us immediately. Loads are held for a short period before sorting, and we’ll do everything we can to find it. We also gather anything that looks personal as we go, so paperwork, photos and jewellery are usually already set aside.
Can you deal with the solicitor or executor?
Yes. Give us their details and we’ll arrange access, timing and any letter or inventory they need for probate directly with them.
Can the furniture go to charity?
We try. Good furniture is set aside for reuse where we can arrange it; worn or damaged pieces are recycled. Tell us if there’s a particular charity you’d like us to try.
Can you return the hospital bed and mobility equipment?
Where it’s on loan from the HSE or a supplier, yes — tell us and we’ll arrange the return rather than disposing of it.
Do you cover all of Louth?
Yes — every town and village on this page and the rural addresses between them.
Can one family member deal with you on behalf of everyone?
Yes — that’s how it usually works. We take instructions from one person, keep everything in writing, and anything another family member wants to see is set aside until they’ve had a look.
Can you clear a nursing-home room or a sheltered-housing flat?
Yes. These often need doing quickly and quietly, and the staff will usually have a short window. We work to it.
What do you do with medication and medical supplies?
Medication is set aside for return to a pharmacy — we don’t dispose of it. Mobility equipment on loan is returned where we can arrange it.
Will you find things hidden in the house?
We look. Money, documents and jewellery turn up in coat pockets, biscuit tins and under mattresses, and every bag is checked before it goes on the truck.
Do you provide anything for the solicitor?
A letter confirming the clearance and, where needed, a basic inventory. Tell us what the solicitor has asked for and we’ll provide it.
Does Louth County Council collect bulky items?
No. Louth County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.
How far is Louth from your base?
Louth is the furthest county we cover — Drogheda is about an hour and a half from Athy, Ardee and Dunleer a little more, and Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula around two hours. We run Louth jobs in batches, usually one or two days a fortnight, so we can keep the price fair; the trade-off is that we’ll offer you a date rather than a same-week slot.
