Furniture Removal in Co. Westmeath
The sofa that’s done, the bed that’s been replaced, the wardrobe that won’t come apart. Collected from inside the house, reused where it can be, recycled where it can’t — across Westmeath.

Old furniture is the single most common thing we collect. It doesn’t fit the car, the shop that delivered the new one wouldn’t take the old one, and it’s too good — or too heavy — to leave out for someone to take. Westmeath has no council collection for bulky furniture, so the choice is a van trip to the recycling centre or a collection from us.
We collect from inside the house, dismantle what needs dismantling, and set good pieces aside for reuse. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. Kinnegad and Kilbeggan are about an hour from Athy, Mullingar roughly 70 minutes, Moate and Athlone about an hour and a half, and Castlepollard and the lake country in the north nearer an hour and three-quarters. We group Westmeath jobs by side of the county — Mullingar and the east one day, Athlone and the west another.

Clearing a house of furniture in Westmeath
When it’s all the furniture — a house being sold empty, a rental being refurnished, a move where nothing is coming — we treat it as a furniture-only clearance: every piece out, dismantled where needed, loaded in an order that protects what can be reused. Good solid furniture, especially hardwood pieces and sound upholstery, is set aside for reuse where we can arrange it, which reduces the disposal cost and we pass that on. Flat-pack rarely survives disassembly and goes for recycling as timber and metal. A house-worth of furniture is typically a half-day and one load.
Single pieces and small furniture collections
One sofa. A bed and mattress. The wardrobe. The dining table and six chairs. These are quick stops and we price them as such, and we try to fit them into a run already going through Westmeath so the price stays sensible. We can time it to the day your new furniture arrives — out with the old in the morning, in with the new in the afternoon.
What we take — and what we don’t
- Sofas, armchairs, recliners and sofa beds
- Beds, bed frames, mattresses and divans
- Wardrobes, chests of drawers, dressers and sideboards
- Dining tables, chairs, desks and bookcases
- Garden furniture
- Flat-pack furniture — dismantled and recycled
- Office furniture from home offices
- Carrying from any room and any floor
Not included: Pianos and safes (ask — we can arrange specialist movers); Furniture you want moved to another address (that’s a removals job, not disposal — though we can advise).
Furniture Removal across Co. Westmeath: every town we cover
We provide furniture removal in all 38 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Westmeath is two towns and the lakes between: Mullingar in the east with the N4 villages (Kinnegad, Killucan, Rochfortbridge, Castlepollard, Delvin) and Athlone on the Shannon in the west with Moate, Kilbeggan and the Glassan–Ballykeeran lake villages. Westmeath County Council runs no bulky-waste collection. Its two recycling centres — Mullingar (run by Mulleadys) and Athlone (Barna) — are household-use only, charge by vehicle type plus items, and the council’s fee sheet isn’t readable online, so most people ring first. Free mattress and bulky-goods amnesty days run periodically but need pre-registration.
Mullingar and Athlone both have Georgian and Victorian town centres, 1970s–90s estates and large 2000s developments plus apartment schemes near the stations and Athlone’s riverside. The lake country around Lough Owel, Lough Ennell and Lough Ree has big detached houses on their own sites; the rest is farmhouses, bungalows and villages. Athlone town-centre parking is the main access issue.

Doing it yourself in Westmeath: what the council offers
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Westmeath County Council will and won’t do for furniture removal. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Mullingar Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site) and Athlone Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), Golden Island, with mattresses charged separately (mattresses €10 single / €18 double (council amnesty announcements)).
Westmeath County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Westmeath County Council does not provide a household bulky-waste collection or a council bin service. Bulky items are taken to the two council recycling centres (Mullingar and Athlone) or collected by a permitted private collector. The council runs periodic free amnesty days at the two centres in partnership with the site operators: Mattress Amnesty Days (e.g. Nov 2023, Aug 2020 — up to 3 mattresses free per registered Westmeath household, extra mattresses €10 single / €18 double, clean and dry only) and a Bulky Goods Amnesty Day (e.g. Sat 14 Dec 2024, 10am–4pm, Mullingar Recycling Centre). Amnesty days are for domestic householders only and require pre-registration online with a Westmeath Eircode, vehicle registration and mobile number — no registration, no access. Register at mulleadys.com/booking (Mullingar) or barnarecycling.com/booking (Athlone).

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.
Or we come to you
Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.
How furniture removal works with us

Price. Fixed price per item or per load, same day.

Reuse or recycle. Good pieces set aside for reuse; the rest recycled by material.

Furniture Removal in Westmeath: frequently asked questions
Can you take just one item?
Yes. Single-item collections are a large part of what we do in Westmeath. We fit them into runs to keep them cheap.
Will you take it from upstairs?
Yes, from any room on any floor, with the walls and door frames protected. Tell us the floor.
Can you take the old one the day the new one arrives?
Yes — book us for the morning and the delivery for the afternoon.
What happens to good furniture?
Reused where we can arrange it. It lowers your price and keeps it out of landfill. Tell us if there’s a charity you’d like us to try.
Do you take mattresses?
Yes, with a per-mattress disposal charge shown on the quote — the same charge the council sites apply where they accept them.
Do you cover every town in Westmeath?
Yes — every town on this page and the addresses in between.
Can you take a wardrobe that was built in the room?
Yes — we dismantle it. Fitted wardrobes are unscrewed from the wall and taken in panels; freestanding ones come apart the same way.
Do you take garden and patio furniture?
Yes — rattan, metal, timber, parasols, and the cover that blew away. Timber and metal are recycled separately.
Can you collect from a storage unit or a garage?
Yes. Tell us the location and access, and we collect from there instead of the house.
Do you take office furniture from a home office?
Yes — desks, chairs, filing cabinets and bookcases from home offices are a common collection.
Is there a minimum charge for furniture collection in Westmeath?
A single-item collection is priced as a short stop, not a full clearance. In Westmeath we fit single items into runs to keep the price down.
Does Westmeath County Council collect bulky items?
No. Westmeath County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.
How far is Westmeath from your base?
