There is no good time to clear a house after a death. There is often a deadline — a sale, a tenancy ending, a council or landlord wanting the keys, probate that can’t move until the house is empty — and there is almost always more in the house than anyone expected. Families divide between the ones who want it done and the ones who can’t face it, and the one who lives nearest ends up with the job.
We’ve done a great many of these. The crew is briefed to be quiet and careful; nobody comments on anything; paperwork, photographs, jewellery and anything that looks personal is set aside without being asked; and we work on the days and at the pace the family can manage. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01, and we can deal directly with the executor or solicitor if that’s easier for you. Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters. We cover it by grouping Meath jobs on set days each week, so a one-off job here is priced as part of a round rather than a special trip.

Full bereavement house clearance in Meath
The whole house, when the family is ready. We walk through with you first — in person or on a video call — and you tell us what’s being kept, what’s going to family, and what you’d like a charity to have. We clear in an order that makes sense: the rooms you’re finished with first, the ones you want to go through last. Personal effects are collected in one place as we go: documents, photographs, letters, medals, jewellery, anything with a name on it. Good furniture and household goods go for reuse where we can arrange it. The house is left empty and swept, and we send photographs of every room.
If probate requires an inventory or a letter confirming the clearance, we provide it. If the house has been empty a while, we deal with what that brings.
Partial bereavement clearance in Meath
Many families do this in stages: the bulky furniture now so the house can be shown; the attic and the shed next; the personal rooms when they’re ready. We’re glad to work that way. We’ll clear what you ask and leave everything else exactly as it is, and come back when you call. There’s no pressure to do it all at once and no penalty for doing it in three visits.
What we take — and what we don’t
- Furniture, beds, mattresses and the contents of every room
- Personal effects — gathered, boxed and kept for the family
- Clothes and textiles — sorted for charity where possible
- Kitchen contents, appliances and white goods
- Medical equipment, mobility aids, hospital beds (we can arrange return where they’re on loan)
- Attic, garage, shed and garden
- Paperwork — set aside unread for the executor
- Cleaning to broom-clean standard, with a full clean available
Not included: Valuing or selling contents (we can suggest auctioneers); Legal advice on probate or tenancy — ask your solicitor; Hazardous waste.
Bereavement Clearance across Co. Meath: every town we cover
We provide a bereavement clearance in all 52 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Meath is big and busy: the commuter towns along the Dublin border (Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Clonee) grew enormously in the 2000s; Navan, Trim and Kells are the old market towns in the middle; the coast strip from Laytown to Mornington looks to Drogheda; and the north and west — Oldcastle, Nobber, Athboy, Enfield — is rural and quiet. Meath County Council runs no bulky-waste collection. Its three recycling centres (Navan, Kells, Trim) charge a flat gate fee plus a price per item of furniture, and there is no council site at all in east Meath — people in Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunboyne and the coast are sent to Dunboyne’s private facility or across the county line.
Expect large 2000s estates of semis and townhouses in the commuter towns, plenty of apartment schemes in Ashbourne, Navan and Dunboyne with management-company rules, Georgian and Victorian terraces in Navan, Trim and Kells town centres, and farmhouses with yards and outbuildings across the rest of the county. Long driveways and rural lanes are more of a factor here than parking.

Doing it yourself in Meath: what the council offers
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Meath County Council will and won’t do for a bereavement clearance. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Navan Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), Kells Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site) and Trim Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), with mattresses charged separately (Per item on top of the gate fee: single mattress €15, double €20, king €25 (Oxigen's own list says €30), mattress topper/duvet €5–€10, single divan €10, double divan €15, 3-seater couch €20, 2-seater €15, corner couch €35, armchair €12, patio table €10, patio chair €5, large carpet/lino roll €25, small roll €15, bag of carpet/lino €5, standard refuse sack of mixed domestic or non-recyclable waste €5, large plastic toy €5, toilet/cistern/basin €5, bath/shower tray €10). Dunboyne Recycling Facility (Thorntons Recycling) does not accept furniture or mattresses at all. Watch the vehicle rules: Cars, vans and trailers admitted; vans and trailers pay load-based rates (green waste small van €10, large van €50). Commercial vehicles charged separately (timber €40 per van or €1.50 per pallet, scrap metal €50 per load, cardboard €30 per van, paper €40 per van). Fair-usage policy applies.
Meath County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Meath County Council does not collect household or bulky waste from homes and does not run a bookable bulky-item collection. Bulky household waste is to be brought to the three council recycling centres at Navan, Kells and Trim (run under contract by Oxigen Environmental), where it is charged per item on top of a €2 gate fee, or to Thorntons Dunboyne. Alternatively use an authorised private collector (check the NWCPO permit register). The council does run several free amnesty / drop-off weeks each year: a free mattress drop-off (typically April; e.g. Navan 18 April, Trim 19 April, Thorntons Dunboyne 19 April, Kells 20 April in 2024), a free bulky-furniture week in late July/August (couches, beds, chairs, tables, wardrobes, outdoor furniture, garden equipment, toys, trampolines, flooring, sanitary ware - mattresses excluded) rotating through Navan, Trim, Kells and Dunboyne, and a Halloween anti-bonfire drop-off in late October (furniture suites, beds, divans, bed frames, flooring, duvets, pillows, toys, doors, windows - no mattresses, paint, domestic or green waste). Rules: householders only, Meath residents only (bring photo ID plus a utility bill or driving licence), no commercial customers, and the €2 gate fee still applies. The council said in April 2026 the mattress amnesty and a sofa amnesty would run again in 2026; dates are announced on meath.ie, the council's social media and in the Meath Chronicle, and enquiries go to environment@meathcoco.ie.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.
Or we come to you
Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.
How a bereavement clearance works with us
A conversation first. By phone or in person. We listen to what’s needed, who needs to be involved, and what the timing is.
Walk-through and a plan. What’s kept, what’s going where, what order the rooms go in. Written down so everyone in the family has it.
The clearance. Quiet, careful, at your pace. Personal items gathered. Reuse arranged where possible.
Handover. Photos of every room, keys returned as agreed, a clearance letter for probate if needed.

What affects the price in Meath
Volume — a lifetime’s belongings is usually more than one load
Access and stairs
Reuse and charity — good furniture reduces the disposal cost and we pass it on
Staged visits — several small visits cost a little more than one, but we keep it fair
A full clean, if wanted, is quoted separately

Bereavement Clearance in Meath: frequently asked questions
How soon after the funeral should we do this?
Only when you’re ready. There’s no right time. If there’s a deadline from a landlord, a sale or a solicitor we’ll work to it; if there isn’t, take the time you need and call us when you’re ready.
Will the crew be respectful?
Yes. They’re briefed before every bereavement job, they work quietly, and nothing is commented on. Many customers tell us afterwards that it was easier than they feared because of how the crew behaved.
What if we find something we want to keep after you’ve left?
Ring us immediately. Loads are held for a short period before sorting, and we’ll do everything we can to find it. We also gather anything that looks personal as we go, so paperwork, photos and jewellery are usually already set aside.
Can you deal with the solicitor or executor?
Yes. Give us their details and we’ll arrange access, timing and any letter or inventory they need for probate directly with them.
Can the furniture go to charity?
We try. Good furniture is set aside for reuse where we can arrange it; worn or damaged pieces are recycled. Tell us if there’s a particular charity you’d like us to try.
Can you return the hospital bed and mobility equipment?
Where it’s on loan from the HSE or a supplier, yes — tell us and we’ll arrange the return rather than disposing of it.
Do you cover all of Meath?
Yes — every town and village on this page and the rural addresses between them.
Can one family member deal with you on behalf of everyone?
Yes — that’s how it usually works. We take instructions from one person, keep everything in writing, and anything another family member wants to see is set aside until they’ve had a look.
Can you clear a nursing-home room or a sheltered-housing flat?
Yes. These often need doing quickly and quietly, and the staff will usually have a short window. We work to it.
What do you do with medication and medical supplies?
Medication is set aside for return to a pharmacy — we don’t dispose of it. Mobility equipment on loan is returned where we can arrange it.
Will you find things hidden in the house?
We look. Money, documents and jewellery turn up in coat pockets, biscuit tins and under mattresses, and every bag is checked before it goes on the truck.
Do you provide anything for the solicitor?
A letter confirming the clearance and, where needed, a basic inventory. Tell us what the solicitor has asked for and we’ll provide it.
Does Meath County Council collect bulky items?
No. Meath County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.
How far is Meath from your base?
Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters. We cover it by grouping Meath jobs on set days each week, so a one-off job here is priced as part of a round rather than a special trip.
