Garage Clearance in Co. Laois

Garages are where the house keeps what it can’t throw out. Tools, timber, tins of paint, the exercise bike, the second fridge. We clear the lot across Laois and deal properly with the awkward stuff.

Garage full of tools, timber and junk before clearance in Laois

A garage clearance is a different beast from a house clearance. Less furniture, more weight: timber, tiles, bags of cement that have gone hard, car parts, a lawnmower that hasn’t started since 2015, paint tins, bottles of something, a chest freezer with the door taped shut. Much of it needs separating — paint, oil and chemicals can’t go in with the general load, timber is cheaper to dispose of on its own, metal is worth keeping apart.

We sort as we load so each stream goes where it should, and we’re permitted to carry it. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. Portlaoise is 35 minutes from Athy, Portarlington and Stradbally nearer 25, and the far west of the county — Rathdowney, Borris-in-Ossory — about an hour. Laois is one of our closest counties and we’re there several times a week.

Full garage clearance in Laois

Back to the walls and the floor. Shelving down if you want it gone, workbench out, everything on it and under it, the roof-space storage, the back corner nobody has reached in a decade. We separate timber, metal, WEEE, hazardous liquids and general waste on the way out and sweep the floor at the end. A single garage is normally a half-day with one truck; a double garage that’s been a workshop and a dump for thirty years is a day and often two loads because of the weight.

If the garage is being converted — into a room, a home office, a gym — we clear to a standard the builder can start on, including taking old fittings and any loose render off the floor.

Partial garage clearance in Laois

The old appliances. The pile of timber. The tyres. The thirty paint tins. A partial garage job is usually about one category of thing that you can’t get rid of any other way — and often it’s the category the council site won’t take, or charges extra for. We’ll collect just that and leave your garage otherwise as it was.

What we take — and what we don’t

  • Timber, pallets, old doors and offcuts
  • Tools, workbenches, shelving and racking
  • Paint, varnish, oil, chemicals and garden treatments (household quantities)
  • Tyres, car parts, bikes and lawnmowers
  • Fridges, freezers, washing machines and old electricals
  • Tiles, bagged cement, small amounts of rubble and plasterboard
  • Garden furniture, tools, pots and the general overflow from the house

Not included: Asbestos (including old corrugated garage roofs — we can advise); Full fuel cans and gas cylinders with gas in them; Vehicles — ask, we can point you to a licensed end-of-life facility.

Garage Clearance across Co. Laois: every town we cover

We provide a garage clearance in all 35 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Laois is a commuter county in the east (Portlaoise, Portarlington, Stradbally, Emo, along the M7 and the Dublin–Cork line) and a rural one in the west and south (Mountrath, Rathdowney, Durrow, Abbeyleix, the Slieve Bloom villages). Laois County Council does not collect bulky waste, but it does run occasional free amnesty days for couches and bed bases at Portlaoise Rugby Club — two items per car, once or twice a year. Outside those days, bulky waste goes to Kyletalesha outside Portlaoise, which charges a gate fee per vehicle plus weight, or to a permitted collector.

Portlaoise and Portarlington grew fast in the 2000s, so there are large estates of semis and townhouses plus apartment schemes near the stations. The rest of the county is older: town-centre terraces in Mountmellick and Abbeyleix, farmhouses with yards and sheds, and bungalows on rural sites with plenty of room to accumulate.

Doing it yourself in Laois: what the council offers

Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Laois County Council will and won’t do for a garage clearance. Timber is taken at Portlaoise Civic Amenity Site / Kyletalesha Landfill & Recycling Centre and Portarlington Civic Amenity Site, usually cheaper than general waste if it’s kept separate. Small amounts of household rubble and plasterboard are accepted at Portlaoise Civic Amenity Site / Kyletalesha Landfill & Recycling Centre. Electrical items — fridges, washing machines, TVs, computers — are free to drop at every council site as WEEE, and we take them as part of any job. Household paint, oil and chemicals are accepted at Portlaoise Civic Amenity Site / Kyletalesha Landfill & Recycling Centre and Portarlington Civic Amenity Site, usually for a small charge. Watch the vehicle rules: Vans, jeeps, trailers and large vans admitted at tiered gate fees (€10–€25); commercial €30; trailer covers mandatory.

Laois County Council — no bulky-waste collection. No bookable household bulky-waste collection. Laois County Council runs periodic free bulky-waste amnesty days (typically at Portlaoise Rugby Club, e.g. July/August, Saturday morning) — couches, armchairs and bed bases only, max two items per vehicle, domestic only. Otherwise bulky items go to Kyletalesha (general waste €200/tonne, mattresses €20) or private collectors.

Charges not published — check before you go

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.

Or we come to you

Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.

How a garage clearance works with us

  1. Photos. A wide shot from the door and a couple of close-ups of the heavy stuff. Tell us if there are chemicals, tyres or a freezer.
  2. Fixed price. Quoted on what we see, with the separate streams (hazardous, tyres, WEEE) priced honestly.
  3. The clearance. Sorted as we load — timber, metal, WEEE, hazardous and general on the truck separately.
  4. Swept and done. Floor swept, shelving left or taken as agreed, photos sent.

What affects the price in Laois

  • Weight — the big factor in garages; timber, tiles and cement cost by the tonne to dispose of
  • Hazardous items — paint, oil and chemicals have separate disposal costs
  • Tyres and appliances — priced per item
  • Access — a garage at the end of a long garden versus one on the driveway
  • Reuse and scrap — tools, metal and good timber reduce the bill

Portlaoise is 35 minutes from Athy, Portarlington and Stradbally nearer 25, and the far west of the county — Rathdowney, Borris-in-Ossory — about an hour. Laois is one of our closest counties and we’re there several times a week. Send photos through the quote form or on WhatsApp and you’ll have a fixed price the same day.

Garage Clearance in Laois: frequently asked questions

Do you take paint, oil and chemicals?

Yes, in household quantities, separated from the general load and taken to a facility that handles them. There is a per-item or per-litre cost for these — we show it on the quote rather than hiding it.

Do you take tyres?

Yes, priced per tyre. The council sites in Laois take tyres for a small fee too, if you’d rather bring them yourself.

What about the old chest freezer?

Fridges and freezers go for WEEE recycling — the council sites take them free and we take them as part of the job. Empty it first if you can; if you can’t, tell us and we’ll deal with it.

Can you take the garage shelving and workbench?

Yes, dismantled and taken, or left if you want to keep it. Metal racking goes for scrap, which helps the price.

Will you clear it ready for a conversion?

Yes — back to bare walls and floor, old fittings off, loose material up. Tell the builder to send us their list.

Garage, shed and attic together in Laois?

Absolutely, and it’s the most cost-effective way to do it — one crew, one truck, one day. See the shed clearance and attic clearance pages for Laois.

Can you take a car engine or heavy machinery?

If it can be moved by two people or a sack truck, yes. Engine blocks, lathes and the like are heavy but fine. Anything needing a crane we arrange separately.

Do you take asbestos garage roofs?

No — asbestos cement sheets need a licensed contractor. We’ll point you to one and clear the garage once the roof is done.

What about half-full paint tins and old creosote?

Household quantities, yes, separated and taken for proper disposal. We charge per item for these because the facilities charge us per litre.

Can you clear a garage that’s been used as a workshop?

Yes — benches, vices, racking, tools, offcuts and swarf. Tools and metal are set aside for reuse or scrap, which brings the price down.

Do you offer same-day garage clearance in Laois?

Often, yes — Laois is twenty to forty-five minutes from our yard, so a garage can usually be fitted in the same or next day.

Does Laois County Council collect bulky items?

No. Laois County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.

How far is Laois from your base?

Portlaoise is 35 minutes from Athy, Portarlington and Stradbally nearer 25, and the far west of the county — Rathdowney, Borris-in-Ossory — about an hour. Laois is one of our closest counties and we’re there several times a week.
