Garage Clearance in Co. Westmeath
Garages are where the house keeps what it can’t throw out. Tools, timber, tins of paint, the exercise bike, the second fridge. We clear the lot across Westmeath and deal properly with the awkward stuff.

A garage clearance is a different beast from a house clearance. Less furniture, more weight: timber, tiles, bags of cement that have gone hard, car parts, a lawnmower that hasn’t started since 2015, paint tins, bottles of something, a chest freezer with the door taped shut. Much of it needs separating — paint, oil and chemicals can’t go in with the general load, timber is cheaper to dispose of on its own, metal is worth keeping apart.
We sort as we load so each stream goes where it should, and we’re permitted to carry it. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. Kinnegad and Kilbeggan are about an hour from Athy, Mullingar roughly 70 minutes, Moate and Athlone about an hour and a half, and Castlepollard and the lake country in the north nearer an hour and three-quarters. We group Westmeath jobs by side of the county — Mullingar and the east one day, Athlone and the west another.

Full garage clearance in Westmeath
Back to the walls and the floor. Shelving down if you want it gone, workbench out, everything on it and under it, the roof-space storage, the back corner nobody has reached in a decade. We separate timber, metal, WEEE, hazardous liquids and general waste on the way out and sweep the floor at the end. A single garage is normally a half-day with one truck; a double garage that’s been a workshop and a dump for thirty years is a day and often two loads because of the weight.
If the garage is being converted — into a room, a home office, a gym — we clear to a standard the builder can start on, including taking old fittings and any loose render off the floor.
Partial garage clearance in Westmeath
The old appliances. The pile of timber. The tyres. The thirty paint tins. A partial garage job is usually about one category of thing that you can’t get rid of any other way — and often it’s the category the council site won’t take, or charges extra for. We’ll collect just that and leave your garage otherwise as it was.

Garage Clearance across Co. Westmeath: every town we cover
We provide a garage clearance in all 38 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Westmeath is two towns and the lakes between: Mullingar in the east with the N4 villages (Kinnegad, Killucan, Rochfortbridge, Castlepollard, Delvin) and Athlone on the Shannon in the west with Moate, Kilbeggan and the Glassan–Ballykeeran lake villages. Westmeath County Council runs no bulky-waste collection. Its two recycling centres — Mullingar (run by Mulleadys) and Athlone (Barna) — are household-use only, charge by vehicle type plus items, and the council’s fee sheet isn’t readable online, so most people ring first. Free mattress and bulky-goods amnesty days run periodically but need pre-registration.
Mullingar and Athlone both have Georgian and Victorian town centres, 1970s–90s estates and large 2000s developments plus apartment schemes near the stations and Athlone’s riverside. The lake country around Lough Owel, Lough Ennell and Lough Ree has big detached houses on their own sites; the rest is farmhouses, bungalows and villages. Athlone town-centre parking is the main access issue.

Doing it yourself in Westmeath: what the council offers
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Westmeath County Council will and won’t do for a garage clearance. Timber is taken at Mullingar Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site) and Athlone Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), Golden Island, usually cheaper than general waste if it’s kept separate. Electrical items — fridges, washing machines, TVs, computers — are free to drop at every council site as WEEE, and we take them as part of any job. Household paint, oil and chemicals are accepted at Mullingar Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site) and Athlone Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), Golden Island, usually for a small charge.
Westmeath County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Westmeath County Council does not provide a household bulky-waste collection or a council bin service. Bulky items are taken to the two council recycling centres (Mullingar and Athlone) or collected by a permitted private collector. The council runs periodic free amnesty days at the two centres in partnership with the site operators: Mattress Amnesty Days (e.g. Nov 2023, Aug 2020 — up to 3 mattresses free per registered Westmeath household, extra mattresses €10 single / €18 double, clean and dry only) and a Bulky Goods Amnesty Day (e.g. Sat 14 Dec 2024, 10am–4pm, Mullingar Recycling Centre). Amnesty days are for domestic householders only and require pre-registration online with a Westmeath Eircode, vehicle registration and mobile number — no registration, no access. Register at mulleadys.com/booking (Mullingar) or barnarecycling.com/booking (Athlone).

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.
Or we come to you
Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.
How a garage clearance works with us
Photos. A wide shot from the door and a couple of close-ups of the heavy stuff. Tell us if there are chemicals, tyres or a freezer.
Fixed price. Quoted on what we see, with the separate streams (hazardous, tyres, WEEE) priced honestly.
The clearance. Sorted as we load — timber, metal, WEEE, hazardous and general on the truck separately.
Swept and done. Floor swept, shelving left or taken as agreed, photos sent.

What affects the price in Westmeath
Weight — the big factor in garages; timber, tiles and cement cost by the tonne to dispose of
Hazardous items — paint, oil and chemicals have separate disposal costs
Tyres and appliances — priced per item
Access — a garage at the end of a long garden versus one on the driveway
Reuse and scrap — tools, metal and good timber reduce the bill

We group Westmeath jobs by side of the county — Mullingar and the east one day, Athlone and the west another. Send photos through the quote form or on WhatsApp and you’ll have a fixed price the same day.

Garage Clearance in Westmeath: frequently asked questions
Do you take paint, oil and chemicals?
Yes, in household quantities, separated from the general load and taken to a facility that handles them. There is a per-item or per-litre cost for these — we show it on the quote rather than hiding it.
Do you take tyres?
Yes, priced per tyre. Most council sites either refuse tyres or charge for them.
What about the old chest freezer?
Fridges and freezers go for WEEE recycling — the council sites take them free and we take them as part of the job. Empty it first if you can; if you can’t, tell us and we’ll deal with it.
Can you take the garage shelving and workbench?
Yes, dismantled and taken, or left if you want to keep it. Metal racking goes for scrap, which helps the price.
Will you clear it ready for a conversion?
Yes — back to bare walls and floor, old fittings off, loose material up. Tell the builder to send us their list.
Garage, shed and attic together in Westmeath?
Absolutely, and it’s the most cost-effective way to do it — one crew, one truck, one day. See the shed clearance and attic clearance pages for Westmeath.
Can you take a car engine or heavy machinery?
If it can be moved by two people or a sack truck, yes. Engine blocks, lathes and the like are heavy but fine. Anything needing a crane we arrange separately.
Do you take asbestos garage roofs?
No — asbestos cement sheets need a licensed contractor. We’ll point you to one and clear the garage once the roof is done.
What about half-full paint tins and old creosote?
Household quantities, yes, separated and taken for proper disposal. We charge per item for these because the facilities charge us per litre.
Can you clear a garage that’s been used as a workshop?
Yes — benches, vices, racking, tools, offcuts and swarf. Tools and metal are set aside for reuse or scrap, which brings the price down.
Do you offer same-day garage clearance in Westmeath?
Sometimes. Westmeath jobs are grouped into runs, so next-day is more realistic than same-day, but ask.
Does Westmeath County Council collect bulky items?
No. Westmeath County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.
How far is Westmeath from your base?
Kinnegad and Kilbeggan are about an hour from Athy, Mullingar roughly 70 minutes, Moate and Athlone about an hour and a half, and Castlepollard and the lake country in the north nearer an hour and three-quarters. We group Westmeath jobs by side of the county — Mullingar and the east one day, Athlone and the west another.
