Nobody clears an attic for fun. It gets done because the house is being sold, because the roof is being insulated or converted, because a parent has died and the children have discovered forty years of boxes, or because the ceiling has started to bow. By then there’s a lot up there, most of it in boxes that split when lifted, and the only way down is a ladder through a hatch.
We bring the crew, the bags, the boxes and the patience. Everything comes down, gets sorted into keep / reuse / recycle / dispose on the landing, and leaves the house the same day. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. Louth is the furthest county we cover — Drogheda is about an hour and a half from Athy, Ardee and Dunleer a little more, and Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula around two hours. We run Louth jobs in batches, usually one or two days a fortnight, so we can keep the price fair; the trade-off is that we’ll offer you a date rather than a same-week slot.

Full attic clearance in Louth
The whole roof space emptied: boxes, suitcases, old furniture that was carried up before the stairs were changed, cots and prams, Christmas decorations, the water tank’s old lagging, loose insulation, offcuts of timber and plasterboard from the last job, and the things nobody can identify. We lay dust sheets on the landing and the stairs, work through the hatch in a chain, and sort on the floor below. Anything you want to look at first gets stacked separately. A typical semi’s attic is two to four hours; a big old house with a full-height attic that’s been used as a room can be a day.
If the attic is being insulated or converted, tell us — we’ll clear right back to the joists and take the old insulation too.
Partial attic clearance in Louth
Sometimes it’s just the furniture and the heavy things you can’t get down yourself, or just the half of the attic that belongs to one person, or just enough to make room for the water-tank engineer. We’ll do exactly that and leave the rest where it is. Partial attic jobs are usually an hour or two and priced to match.
What we take — and what we don’t
- Boxes, bags, suitcases and loose belongings
- Furniture stored in the attic — dismantled to get it through the hatch if needed
- Old insulation, lagging, water-tank jackets
- Timber offcuts, plasterboard, leftover building materials
- Christmas decorations, toys, cots, prams
- Old electricals, cables, computers (WEEE)
- Clothes, books, paperwork and photographs — sorted and kept where you ask
Not included: Asbestos-containing insulation or boards (we’ll stop and tell you if we see it); Wasp nests and live pests — call a pest controller first; Removing attic flooring or structural timber.
Attic Clearance across Co. Louth: every town we cover
We provide an attic clearance in all 29 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Louth is Ireland’s smallest county but it has two of its biggest towns: Drogheda in the south, straddling the Boyne, and Dundalk in the north under the Cooley mountains, with Ardee, Dunleer and the Castlebellingham villages between them and a run of coastal villages from Baltray up to Carlingford and Omeath. Louth County Council does not collect bulky waste. Its two civic amenity centres at Dundalk and Drogheda (both run by V&W Recycling) charge a €4 entry plus item charges that aren’t published online, and the annual mattress-and-couch amnesty in early September is the only free route for furniture.
Drogheda and Dundalk both have Victorian town-centre terraces, 1950s–70s council-built estates and large 2000s developments on the edges, plus apartment schemes near the stations and the quays. Ardee, Dunleer and the villages are smaller-scale, with farmhouses and bungalows on their own sites across mid-Louth and the Cooley peninsula. Town-centre parking in Drogheda and Dundalk is the main access issue.

Doing it yourself in Louth: what the council offers
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Louth County Council will and won’t do for an attic clearance. Electrical items — fridges, washing machines, TVs, computers — are free to drop at every council site as WEEE, and we take them as part of any job. Watch the vehicle rules: Cars and car trailers admitted (trailer charge applies for green waste); no commercial vehicles or commercial waste. Van policy not published - ring ahead.
Louth County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Louth County Council does not collect household waste or bulky items and has no bookable bulky-waste service. It directs residents to the two civic amenity centres in Dundalk and Drogheda, both run by V&W Recycling, where beds, couches, carpet/lino, children's toys and bags of non-recyclable domestic waste are accepted for a charge (ring 042 9329200 or 041 9803900 for the price list - V&W do not publish bulky prices online), or to the nine authorised bulky-waste / skip operators the council lists (e.g. Pronto Waste Clearance & Recycling 087 2912911, Skips on Wheels 083 1552410). Once a year, under the Anti-Dumping Initiative, the council runs a free Mattress & Couch Amnesty, normally over two days in early September: in 2025 it was Wed 3 September 9:30am–5:30pm at the V&W centres in Dundalk and Drogheda and Thu 4 September 9:30am–3:30pm at Kieran & McGee Livestock Sales Yard, Ardee (A92 VP92); in 2024 it was 11–12 September at the same three locations. Only mattresses, sofas and armchairs are taken, maximum 3 items per vehicle, the council covers the disposal cost but the normal €4 entry charge still applies at Dundalk and Drogheda (Ardee is free). The 2025 event took in 2,233 mattresses and 2,124 couches. Dates are announced on louthcoco.ie and in the Dundalk Democrat / Drogheda Independent in August.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.
Or we come to you
Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.
How an attic clearance works with us
Photos through the hatch. A couple of photos from the ladder and a note of the hatch size and access tell us almost everything.
Agree what’s kept. Family paperwork and photographs are the usual keeps. We stack them on the landing for you.
The clearance. Dust sheets down, chain through the hatch, sort on the landing, out to the truck.
Finish. Landing and stairs hoovered, attic left clear to the joists if that’s what was asked.

What affects the price in Louth
Volume — attics are deceptive; photos help
Hatch and access — a small hatch with a loft ladder versus a proper stairs
Weight — books, tiles and old insulation are heavy and cost more to dispose of
Dismantling — furniture that has to come apart to fit through the hatch
Combination — attic plus garage or shed on the same visit is cheaper than two visits

Attic Clearance in Louth: frequently asked questions
Will you go into the attic yourselves?
Yes. That’s the job. We bring our own ladder if the loft ladder isn’t safe, and we crawl the eaves to get everything.
Do you take old insulation?
Yes, loose or rolled fibreglass and mineral wool insulation goes as general waste. If we find anything that looks like asbestos we stop and tell you — that needs a specialist.
Can you sort what’s up there? I don’t know what’s in the boxes.
Yes. We bring boxes down and open them on the landing with you, or stack them for you to go through at your own pace and come back for the rest. Paperwork and photographs are always set aside.
What about the water tank and pipes?
We work around them and don’t touch plumbing or wiring. If the attic is being cleared for a tank replacement or insulation job, we clear exactly the area the tradesman needs.
Can you do the garage and shed the same day in Louth?
Yes, and it’s cheaper as one visit. Attic, garage and shed together is one of our most common Louth jobs — see the garage clearance and shed clearance pages for Louth.
Is a cleared attic worth it before a sale?
Agents say an empty attic is a real selling point — buyers look up the hatch. It also lets the surveyor see the roof, which avoids questions later.
Is there a minimum charge for an attic?
A small attic job is priced as a short visit — an hour or two — rather than a full clearance rate. We don’t pad small jobs.
Can you take the attic flooring or the old water tank?
Loose boards and chipboard sheets, yes. A disconnected tank, yes. Anything still plumbed or wired we leave for the tradesperson.
Will you take Christmas decorations and children’s things to charity?
Where they’re in good condition and a charity will take them, we try. Tell us what you’d like kept out of the general load.
Can you do it while I’m at work?
Yes, with a key and a note of what’s being kept. We send photos of the empty attic and the landing before we leave.
Do you take the dust and debris as well?
Yes — we hoover the landing and stairs and bag the loose debris from the attic floor. A full clean of the attic space is extra if you want it.
Does Louth County Council collect bulky items?
No. Louth County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.
How far is Louth from your base?
Louth is the furthest county we cover — Drogheda is about an hour and a half from Athy, Ardee and Dunleer a little more, and Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula around two hours. We run Louth jobs in batches, usually one or two days a fortnight, so we can keep the price fair; the trade-off is that we’ll offer you a date rather than a same-week slot.
