Nobody clears an attic for fun. It gets done because the house is being sold, because the roof is being insulated or converted, because a parent has died and the children have discovered forty years of boxes, or because the ceiling has started to bow. By then there’s a lot up there, most of it in boxes that split when lifted, and the only way down is a ladder through a hatch.
We bring the crew, the bags, the boxes and the patience. Everything comes down, gets sorted into keep / reuse / recycle / dispose on the landing, and leaves the house the same day. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters. We cover it by grouping Meath jobs on set days each week, so a one-off job here is priced as part of a round rather than a special trip.

Full attic clearance in Meath
The whole roof space emptied: boxes, suitcases, old furniture that was carried up before the stairs were changed, cots and prams, Christmas decorations, the water tank’s old lagging, loose insulation, offcuts of timber and plasterboard from the last job, and the things nobody can identify. We lay dust sheets on the landing and the stairs, work through the hatch in a chain, and sort on the floor below. Anything you want to look at first gets stacked separately. A typical semi’s attic is two to four hours; a big old house with a full-height attic that’s been used as a room can be a day.
If the attic is being insulated or converted, tell us — we’ll clear right back to the joists and take the old insulation too.
Partial attic clearance in Meath
Sometimes it’s just the furniture and the heavy things you can’t get down yourself, or just the half of the attic that belongs to one person, or just enough to make room for the water-tank engineer. We’ll do exactly that and leave the rest where it is. Partial attic jobs are usually an hour or two and priced to match.
What we take — and what we don’t
- Boxes, bags, suitcases and loose belongings
- Furniture stored in the attic — dismantled to get it through the hatch if needed
- Old insulation, lagging, water-tank jackets
- Timber offcuts, plasterboard, leftover building materials
- Christmas decorations, toys, cots, prams
- Old electricals, cables, computers (WEEE)
- Clothes, books, paperwork and photographs — sorted and kept where you ask
Not included: Asbestos-containing insulation or boards (we’ll stop and tell you if we see it); Wasp nests and live pests — call a pest controller first; Removing attic flooring or structural timber.
Attic Clearance across Co. Meath: every town we cover
We provide an attic clearance in all 52 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Meath is big and busy: the commuter towns along the Dublin border (Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Clonee) grew enormously in the 2000s; Navan, Trim and Kells are the old market towns in the middle; the coast strip from Laytown to Mornington looks to Drogheda; and the north and west — Oldcastle, Nobber, Athboy, Enfield — is rural and quiet. Meath County Council runs no bulky-waste collection. Its three recycling centres (Navan, Kells, Trim) charge a flat gate fee plus a price per item of furniture, and there is no council site at all in east Meath — people in Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunboyne and the coast are sent to Dunboyne’s private facility or across the county line.
Expect large 2000s estates of semis and townhouses in the commuter towns, plenty of apartment schemes in Ashbourne, Navan and Dunboyne with management-company rules, Georgian and Victorian terraces in Navan, Trim and Kells town centres, and farmhouses with yards and outbuildings across the rest of the county. Long driveways and rural lanes are more of a factor here than parking.

Doing it yourself in Meath: what the council offers
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Meath County Council will and won’t do for an attic clearance. Timber is taken at Navan Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), Kells Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site) and Trim Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), usually cheaper than general waste if it’s kept separate. Electrical items — fridges, washing machines, TVs, computers — are free to drop at every council site as WEEE, and we take them as part of any job. Watch the vehicle rules: Cars, vans and trailers admitted; vans and trailers pay load-based rates (green waste small van €10, large van €50). Commercial vehicles charged separately (timber €40 per van or €1.50 per pallet, scrap metal €50 per load, cardboard €30 per van, paper €40 per van). Fair-usage policy applies.
Meath County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Meath County Council does not collect household or bulky waste from homes and does not run a bookable bulky-item collection. Bulky household waste is to be brought to the three council recycling centres at Navan, Kells and Trim (run under contract by Oxigen Environmental), where it is charged per item on top of a €2 gate fee, or to Thorntons Dunboyne. Alternatively use an authorised private collector (check the NWCPO permit register). The council does run several free amnesty / drop-off weeks each year: a free mattress drop-off (typically April; e.g. Navan 18 April, Trim 19 April, Thorntons Dunboyne 19 April, Kells 20 April in 2024), a free bulky-furniture week in late July/August (couches, beds, chairs, tables, wardrobes, outdoor furniture, garden equipment, toys, trampolines, flooring, sanitary ware - mattresses excluded) rotating through Navan, Trim, Kells and Dunboyne, and a Halloween anti-bonfire drop-off in late October (furniture suites, beds, divans, bed frames, flooring, duvets, pillows, toys, doors, windows - no mattresses, paint, domestic or green waste). Rules: householders only, Meath residents only (bring photo ID plus a utility bill or driving licence), no commercial customers, and the €2 gate fee still applies. The council said in April 2026 the mattress amnesty and a sofa amnesty would run again in 2026; dates are announced on meath.ie, the council's social media and in the Meath Chronicle, and enquiries go to environment@meathcoco.ie.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.
Or we come to you
Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.
How an attic clearance works with us
Photos through the hatch. A couple of photos from the ladder and a note of the hatch size and access tell us almost everything.
Agree what’s kept. Family paperwork and photographs are the usual keeps. We stack them on the landing for you.
The clearance. Dust sheets down, chain through the hatch, sort on the landing, out to the truck.
Finish. Landing and stairs hoovered, attic left clear to the joists if that’s what was asked.

What affects the price in Meath
Volume — attics are deceptive; photos help
Hatch and access — a small hatch with a loft ladder versus a proper stairs
Weight — books, tiles and old insulation are heavy and cost more to dispose of
Dismantling — furniture that has to come apart to fit through the hatch
Combination — attic plus garage or shed on the same visit is cheaper than two visits
Send photos through the quote form or on WhatsApp and you’ll have a fixed price the same day.

Attic Clearance in Meath: frequently asked questions
Will you go into the attic yourselves?
Yes. That’s the job. We bring our own ladder if the loft ladder isn’t safe, and we crawl the eaves to get everything.
Do you take old insulation?
Yes, loose or rolled fibreglass and mineral wool insulation goes as general waste. If we find anything that looks like asbestos we stop and tell you — that needs a specialist.
Can you sort what’s up there? I don’t know what’s in the boxes.
Yes. We bring boxes down and open them on the landing with you, or stack them for you to go through at your own pace and come back for the rest. Paperwork and photographs are always set aside.
What about the water tank and pipes?
We work around them and don’t touch plumbing or wiring. If the attic is being cleared for a tank replacement or insulation job, we clear exactly the area the tradesman needs.
Can you do the garage and shed the same day in Meath?
Yes, and it’s cheaper as one visit. Attic, garage and shed together is one of our most common Meath jobs — see the garage clearance and shed clearance pages for Meath.
Is a cleared attic worth it before a sale?
Agents say an empty attic is a real selling point — buyers look up the hatch. It also lets the surveyor see the roof, which avoids questions later.
Is there a minimum charge for an attic?
A small attic job is priced as a short visit — an hour or two — rather than a full clearance rate. We don’t pad small jobs.
Can you take the attic flooring or the old water tank?
Loose boards and chipboard sheets, yes. A disconnected tank, yes. Anything still plumbed or wired we leave for the tradesperson.
Will you take Christmas decorations and children’s things to charity?
Where they’re in good condition and a charity will take them, we try. Tell us what you’d like kept out of the general load.
Can you do it while I’m at work?
Yes, with a key and a note of what’s being kept. We send photos of the empty attic and the landing before we leave.
Do you take the dust and debris as well?
Yes — we hoover the landing and stairs and bag the loose debris from the attic floor. A full clean of the attic space is extra if you want it.
Does Meath County Council collect bulky items?
No. Meath County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.
How far is Meath from your base?
Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters. We cover it by grouping Meath jobs on set days each week, so a one-off job here is priced as part of a round rather than a special trip.
