Self-storage unit being emptied during a storage unit clearance in Louth

Storage units fill up with good intentions. The furniture from the old house that was going to be used again. The stock from a business that closed. A parent’s belongings after a clearance, put away until the family could face them. The monthly direct debit keeps going out, and after a couple of years it has cost more than the contents are worth. Then there’s the practical problem: the unit is on the second floor of a facility with one goods lift, a trolley you have to book, and a gate that closes at six.

We clear units in one visit, within the facility’s hours, with our own trolleys and a crew that knows how the lifts work. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. Louth is the furthest county we cover — Drogheda is about an hour and a half from Athy, Ardee and Dunleer a little more, and Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula around two hours. We run Louth jobs in batches, usually one or two days a fortnight, so we can keep the price fair; the trade-off is that we’ll offer you a date rather than a same-week slot.

Full storage unit clearance in Louth

The unit emptied to the walls in one visit — furniture, boxes, appliances, business stock, whatever is in there — loaded onto our truck in the facility’s loading bay and gone. We sort as we load: anything you’ve asked us to keep is set aside; good furniture goes for reuse; boxes you haven’t looked at in years can be opened on the spot if you want to decide, or brought to you to go through. We sign out with the facility and you cancel the unit that day. A standard 50–100 sq ft unit is an hour or two; a large unit or a container is a half-day.

Partial storage unit clearance — downsizing the unit

Sometimes the aim is a smaller unit, not no unit. We take out the bulky furniture and the things you’ve decided against, and you move what’s left to a cheaper size. Or we clear a parent’s unit of everything except the boxes marked “keep” and bring those to you. Partial unit jobs are priced on what comes out.

What we take — and what we don’t

  • Furniture, beds, mattresses and household contents
  • Boxed belongings — opened and sorted with you if wanted
  • Business stock, fittings and archive boxes
  • Appliances and electricals (WEEE)
  • Containers and lock-ups as well as indoor units
  • Working to the facility’s hours, lift bookings and trolley rules
  • Sign-out with the facility office

Not included: Items the facility has a lien on (sort that with them first); Hazardous goods stored against the facility’s rules.

Storage Unit Clearance across Co. Louth: every town we cover

We provide a storage unit clearance in all 29 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Louth is Ireland’s smallest county but it has two of its biggest towns: Drogheda in the south, straddling the Boyne, and Dundalk in the north under the Cooley mountains, with Ardee, Dunleer and the Castlebellingham villages between them and a run of coastal villages from Baltray up to Carlingford and Omeath. Louth County Council does not collect bulky waste. Its two civic amenity centres at Dundalk and Drogheda (both run by V&W Recycling) charge a €4 entry plus item charges that aren’t published online, and the annual mattress-and-couch amnesty in early September is the only free route for furniture.

Dundalk’s Finnabair and Coes Road estates, Drogheda’s Donore Road and the IDA parks on the M1, Ardee’s smaller units, and the retail along both towns’ main streets make up Louth’s commercial work, plus a lot of cross-border haulage and agri businesses. We plan Louth business clearances as full-day jobs.

Doing it yourself in Louth: what the council offers

Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Louth County Council will and won’t do for a storage unit clearance. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Dundalk Recycling Centre (V&W Civic Amenity Centre) and Drogheda Recycling Centre (V&W Civic Amenity Centre). Electrical items — fridges, washing machines, TVs, computers — are free to drop at every council site as WEEE, and we take them as part of any job. Watch the vehicle rules: Cars and car trailers admitted (trailer charge applies for green waste); no commercial vehicles or commercial waste. Van policy not published - ring ahead.

Louth County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Louth County Council does not collect household waste or bulky items and has no bookable bulky-waste service. It directs residents to the two civic amenity centres in Dundalk and Drogheda, both run by V&W Recycling, where beds, couches, carpet/lino, children's toys and bags of non-recyclable domestic waste are accepted for a charge (ring 042 9329200 or 041 9803900 for the price list - V&W do not publish bulky prices online), or to the nine authorised bulky-waste / skip operators the council lists (e.g. Pronto Waste Clearance & Recycling 087 2912911, Skips on Wheels 083 1552410). Once a year, under the Anti-Dumping Initiative, the council runs a free Mattress & Couch Amnesty, normally over two days in early September: in 2025 it was Wed 3 September 9:30am–5:30pm at the V&W centres in Dundalk and Drogheda and Thu 4 September 9:30am–3:30pm at Kieran & McGee Livestock Sales Yard, Ardee (A92 VP92); in 2024 it was 11–12 September at the same three locations. Only mattresses, sofas and armchairs are taken, maximum 3 items per vehicle, the council covers the disposal cost but the normal €4 entry charge still applies at Dundalk and Drogheda (Ardee is free). The 2025 event took in 2,233 mattresses and 2,124 couches. Dates are announced on louthcoco.ie and in the Dundalk Democrat / Drogheda Independent in August.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.

Or we come to you

Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.

How a storage unit clearance works with us

  1. Unit details. Facility, unit size and floor, access hours, and photos through the door if you have them.
  2. Price. Fixed price for the unit, same day.
  3. The clearance. Our trolleys, our crew, one visit within the facility’s hours.
  4. Cancel the unit. Signed out, unit swept, you stop the direct debit.

What affects the price in Louth

  • Unit size — the quickest measure
  • Floor and lift — ground-floor drive-up versus a second-floor goods lift
  • Contents — furniture-heavy units weigh more than box-heavy ones
  • Reuse — good furniture lowers the cost
  • Facility hours — tight windows can mean a second visit

Storage Unit Clearance in Louth: frequently asked questions

Can you clear a unit without me there?

Yes, if the facility allows it — most do with your written authorisation and a code. We photograph the unit before and after.

Do you know the storage facilities in Louth?

The main ones, yes — we work in them regularly. Tell us which, and we’ll know the lift, the trolley rules and the hours.

Can you bring some things to me and dispose of the rest?

Yes. Tag or list what you want, and we deliver those and dispose of the rest in the same trip.

What about a unit that belonged to someone who has died?

We do these carefully. The facility will need the executor’s authorisation; after that we clear the unit, set aside anything personal, and bring it to the family.

Can you clear a shipping container or a lock-up?

Yes — containers on yards and lock-ups behind houses are common in Louth, and the only difference is the access for our truck.

How quickly?

Usually within the week; small units often within a day or two.

Can you take a business’s archive boxes for shredding?

Yes — bagged for confidential shredding through our partner, with a certificate, or archived if you prefer.

The unit has a padlock and I’ve lost the key.

The facility can usually cut it with your authorisation. Arrange that with them first and we do the rest.

Can you clear a unit in another county and bring things to me?

Yes — clearing a unit in Dublin and delivering keepsakes to Louth, or the reverse, is a normal job for us.

Do you deal with the facility’s paperwork?

We sign in and out and can hand the keys or fob back to the office. Cancelling the account is yours to do.

What if the unit is bigger than I thought?

We tell you before we start the second load, not after. The quote is based on the unit size and your photos; if it’s packed to the ceiling, say so.

Does Louth County Council collect bulky items?

No. Louth County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.

How far is Louth from your base?

Louth is the furthest county we cover — Drogheda is about an hour and a half from Athy, Ardee and Dunleer a little more, and Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula around two hours. We run Louth jobs in batches, usually one or two days a fortnight, so we can keep the price fair; the trade-off is that we’ll offer you a date rather than a same-week slot.
