Hoarder Clearance in Co. Louth
A home that has become unmanageable can be made safe and liveable again. We do it discreetly, without judgement, and at whatever pace the person living there can cope with — across Louth.

Hoarding is not untidiness and it isn’t a character flaw. It’s a recognised condition, and the homes it produces are a safety problem before they are anything else — blocked exits, fire load, floors you can’t see, rooms that can’t be used, sometimes no working kitchen or bathroom. The person living there usually knows all this and is ashamed of it, which is why the first rule of a hoarder clearance is that nobody on our crew says a word about the state of the place.
We work with the occupant where that’s possible, with families and carers, with housing officers and social workers, and with landlords and councils where the clearance has become a requirement. The clearance is planned so that the person keeps what matters to them and the home ends up safe and usable. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01, with the insurance that housing bodies ask for. Louth is the furthest county we cover — Drogheda is about an hour and a half from Athy, Ardee and Dunleer a little more, and Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula around two hours. We run Louth jobs in batches, usually one or two days a fortnight, so we can keep the price fair; the trade-off is that we’ll offer you a date rather than a same-week slot.

Full hoarder clearance in Louth
Where a home has to be completely cleared — because it’s being vacated, because it’s unsafe, or because that’s what the person and their family have decided — we go room by room, bagging and boxing, with a sorting area where anything of value, importance or sentiment is set aside. We expect to find money, documents, photographs and jewellery mixed in with everything else, and we look. Food waste, soiled items and anything biologically hazardous is handled with the right equipment and disposed of correctly. We work in protective gear where needed, and we bring our own lighting and ventilation for rooms that need it. A heavily hoarded two-bed home is typically two to three days and several truck loads; we quote after seeing it.
At the end the property is swept and, where wanted, deep-cleaned, and we photograph every room. For housing bodies and landlords we provide a report of what was done.
Staged or partial hoarder clearance in Louth
Where the person is staying in the home, clearing everything at once can do more harm than good. A staged approach works better: make the exits and the hall safe first; then the kitchen and bathroom usable; then one room at a time, with the person involved in decisions and a break between visits. We’ll work that way for as long as it takes, and we coordinate with the support worker or family member leading it. Each visit is quoted separately so there’s no commitment beyond the next step.
What we take — and what we don’t
- Accumulated belongings, bagged and boxed, with valuables and documents set aside
- Furniture, mattresses and bedding, including soiled items
- Food waste, packaging and perishables
- Newspapers, magazines, paper and cardboard in bulk
- Clothing and textiles, sorted for reuse where possible
- Animal-related waste, with the right handling
- Appliances, electricals and general household waste
- Sweeping and deep cleaning at the end, if wanted
Not included: Sharps and clinical waste beyond household quantities (we’ll arrange specialists); Structural repairs after the clearance; Counselling or support services — we work alongside them, we don’t replace them.
Hoarder Clearance across Co. Louth: every town we cover
We provide a hoarder clearance in all 29 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Louth is Ireland’s smallest county but it has two of its biggest towns: Drogheda in the south, straddling the Boyne, and Dundalk in the north under the Cooley mountains, with Ardee, Dunleer and the Castlebellingham villages between them and a run of coastal villages from Baltray up to Carlingford and Omeath. Louth County Council does not collect bulky waste. Its two civic amenity centres at Dundalk and Drogheda (both run by V&W Recycling) charge a €4 entry plus item charges that aren’t published online, and the annual mattress-and-couch amnesty in early September is the only free route for furniture.
Drogheda and Dundalk both have Victorian town-centre terraces, 1950s–70s council-built estates and large 2000s developments on the edges, plus apartment schemes near the stations and the quays. Ardee, Dunleer and the villages are smaller-scale, with farmhouses and bungalows on their own sites across mid-Louth and the Cooley peninsula. Town-centre parking in Drogheda and Dundalk is the main access issue.

Doing it yourself in Louth: what the council offers
Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Louth County Council will and won’t do for a hoarder clearance. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Dundalk Recycling Centre (V&W Civic Amenity Centre) and Drogheda Recycling Centre (V&W Civic Amenity Centre). Watch the vehicle rules: Cars and car trailers admitted (trailer charge applies for green waste); no commercial vehicles or commercial waste. Van policy not published - ring ahead.
Louth County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Louth County Council does not collect household waste or bulky items and has no bookable bulky-waste service. It directs residents to the two civic amenity centres in Dundalk and Drogheda, both run by V&W Recycling, where beds, couches, carpet/lino, children's toys and bags of non-recyclable domestic waste are accepted for a charge (ring 042 9329200 or 041 9803900 for the price list - V&W do not publish bulky prices online), or to the nine authorised bulky-waste / skip operators the council lists (e.g. Pronto Waste Clearance & Recycling 087 2912911, Skips on Wheels 083 1552410). Once a year, under the Anti-Dumping Initiative, the council runs a free Mattress & Couch Amnesty, normally over two days in early September: in 2025 it was Wed 3 September 9:30am–5:30pm at the V&W centres in Dundalk and Drogheda and Thu 4 September 9:30am–3:30pm at Kieran & McGee Livestock Sales Yard, Ardee (A92 VP92); in 2024 it was 11–12 September at the same three locations. Only mattresses, sofas and armchairs are taken, maximum 3 items per vehicle, the council covers the disposal cost but the normal €4 entry charge still applies at Dundalk and Drogheda (Ardee is free). The 2025 event took in 2,233 mattresses and 2,124 couches. Dates are announced on louthcoco.ie and in the Dundalk Democrat / Drogheda Independent in August.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.
Or we come to you
Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.
How a hoarder clearance works with us
A private conversation. With whoever is coordinating — family member, carer, housing officer or the person themselves. No judgement, no pressure.
A plan. Full or staged, who’s present, what’s kept, what order. Written down and agreed.
The clearance. Discreet crew, unmarked where asked, protective equipment where needed, valuables and documents set aside.
Afterwards. Swept or deep-cleaned, photographed, and a report for housing bodies if required.

What affects the price in Louth
Volume — hoarded homes are many loads, not one
Condition — biohazard handling and protective equipment add cost
Staging — several visits cost more in total than one, but are often the right thing
Cleaning — deep cleaning is quoted separately
Access and parking — as with any clearance

Hoarder Clearance in Louth: frequently asked questions
Will the neighbours know?
Not from us. We can arrive in an unmarked vehicle, we don’t discuss the job with anyone outside it, and our crew is briefed to be discreet. The truck is loaded quickly and leaves.
My relative won’t agree to it. What can you do?
Nothing without their agreement, unless a landlord or housing body has the authority to require it — and even then we’d encourage involving them. What often works is starting small: one safe route through the house, nothing thrown away without their say. We’ll talk it through with you.
Can you work with social workers and housing officers?
Yes. We do regularly in Louth and across Leinster. We can provide insurance, risk assessments and a report after the clearance.
Will you find the money and the documents?
We look for them, specifically. Hoarded homes often contain cash, bank documents, passports and jewellery in unexpected places, and we treat every bag as if it might.
Do you clean afterwards?
We sweep as standard and can deep-clean, including sanitising, as a separate quoted item.
How long does it take?
Anything from a day to a week. A moderately cluttered home is a day or two; a severe one is several days and several loads. We tell you after seeing it.
Is there anything you won’t touch?
Sharps and clinical waste beyond household amounts, and anything that needs a specialist. We tell you if we see it rather than guess.
Can the person stay in the home while you work?
Often, in a staged clearance, yes — one room at a time, with a safe route kept clear. In a full clearance of an unsafe home it’s usually better they stay with family for the day.
Do you provide a written report for the housing officer?
Yes — what was cleared, what was kept, the condition found and left, with photographs. Many housing bodies in Louth ask for it.
Can you organise a deep clean afterwards?
Yes, as a separate quoted item — sanitising, odour treatment and a proper clean so the home is ready to live in again.
How do you keep this private?
Unmarked vehicle on request, a crew briefed not to discuss it, nothing left on the footpath, and no conversation with neighbours. Discretion is part of the service.
Does Louth County Council collect bulky items?
No. Louth County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.
How far is Louth from your base?
Louth is the furthest county we cover — Drogheda is about an hour and a half from Athy, Ardee and Dunleer a little more, and Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula around two hours. We run Louth jobs in batches, usually one or two days a fortnight, so we can keep the price fair; the trade-off is that we’ll offer you a date rather than a same-week slot.
