Hoarder Clearance in Co. Meath

A home that has become unmanageable can be made safe and liveable again. We do it discreetly, without judgement, and at whatever pace the person living there can cope with — across Meath.

Heavily cluttered room before a hoarder clearance in Meath

Hoarding is not untidiness and it isn’t a character flaw. It’s a recognised condition, and the homes it produces are a safety problem before they are anything else — blocked exits, fire load, floors you can’t see, rooms that can’t be used, sometimes no working kitchen or bathroom. The person living there usually knows all this and is ashamed of it, which is why the first rule of a hoarder clearance is that nobody on our crew says a word about the state of the place.

We work with the occupant where that’s possible, with families and carers, with housing officers and social workers, and with landlords and councils where the clearance has become a requirement. The clearance is planned so that the person keeps what matters to them and the home ends up safe and usable. ManageWaste.ie is operated by Krystal Klean Express Limited, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01, with the insurance that housing bodies ask for. Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters. We cover it by grouping Meath jobs on set days each week, so a one-off job here is priced as part of a round rather than a special trip.

Full hoarder clearance in Meath

Where a home has to be completely cleared — because it’s being vacated, because it’s unsafe, or because that’s what the person and their family have decided — we go room by room, bagging and boxing, with a sorting area where anything of value, importance or sentiment is set aside. We expect to find money, documents, photographs and jewellery mixed in with everything else, and we look. Food waste, soiled items and anything biologically hazardous is handled with the right equipment and disposed of correctly. We work in protective gear where needed, and we bring our own lighting and ventilation for rooms that need it. A heavily hoarded two-bed home is typically two to three days and several truck loads; we quote after seeing it.

At the end the property is swept and, where wanted, deep-cleaned, and we photograph every room. For housing bodies and landlords we provide a report of what was done.

Staged or partial hoarder clearance in Meath

Where the person is staying in the home, clearing everything at once can do more harm than good. A staged approach works better: make the exits and the hall safe first; then the kitchen and bathroom usable; then one room at a time, with the person involved in decisions and a break between visits. We’ll work that way for as long as it takes, and we coordinate with the support worker or family member leading it. Each visit is quoted separately so there’s no commitment beyond the next step.

What we take — and what we don’t

  • Accumulated belongings, bagged and boxed, with valuables and documents set aside
  • Furniture, mattresses and bedding, including soiled items
  • Food waste, packaging and perishables
  • Newspapers, magazines, paper and cardboard in bulk
  • Clothing and textiles, sorted for reuse where possible
  • Animal-related waste, with the right handling
  • Appliances, electricals and general household waste
  • Sweeping and deep cleaning at the end, if wanted

Not included: Sharps and clinical waste beyond household quantities (we’ll arrange specialists); Structural repairs after the clearance; Counselling or support services — we work alongside them, we don’t replace them.

Hoarder Clearance across Co. Meath: every town we cover

We provide a hoarder clearance in all 52 towns and villages below, and at the rural addresses between them. Meath is big and busy: the commuter towns along the Dublin border (Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Clonee) grew enormously in the 2000s; Navan, Trim and Kells are the old market towns in the middle; the coast strip from Laytown to Mornington looks to Drogheda; and the north and west — Oldcastle, Nobber, Athboy, Enfield — is rural and quiet. Meath County Council runs no bulky-waste collection. Its three recycling centres (Navan, Kells, Trim) charge a flat gate fee plus a price per item of furniture, and there is no council site at all in east Meath — people in Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunboyne and the coast are sent to Dunboyne’s private facility or across the county line.

Expect large 2000s estates of semis and townhouses in the commuter towns, plenty of apartment schemes in Ashbourne, Navan and Dunboyne with management-company rules, Georgian and Victorian terraces in Navan, Trim and Kells town centres, and farmhouses with yards and outbuildings across the rest of the county. Long driveways and rural lanes are more of a factor here than parking.

Doing it yourself in Meath: what the council offers

Before you ring anyone, here is the honest picture of what Meath County Council will and won’t do for a hoarder clearance. Furniture and bulky items are accepted at Navan Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), Kells Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site) and Trim Recycling Centre (Civic Amenity Site), with mattresses charged separately (Per item on top of the gate fee: single mattress €15, double €20, king €25 (Oxigen's own list says €30), mattress topper/duvet €5–€10, single divan €10, double divan €15, 3-seater couch €20, 2-seater €15, corner couch €35, armchair €12, patio table €10, patio chair €5, large carpet/lino roll €25, small roll €15, bag of carpet/lino €5, standard refuse sack of mixed domestic or non-recyclable waste €5, large plastic toy €5, toilet/cistern/basin €5, bath/shower tray €10). Dunboyne Recycling Facility (Thorntons Recycling) does not accept furniture or mattresses at all. Watch the vehicle rules: Cars, vans and trailers admitted; vans and trailers pay load-based rates (green waste small van €10, large van €50). Commercial vehicles charged separately (timber €40 per van or €1.50 per pallet, scrap metal €50 per load, cardboard €30 per van, paper €40 per van). Fair-usage policy applies.

Meath County Council — no bulky-waste collection. Meath County Council does not collect household or bulky waste from homes and does not run a bookable bulky-item collection. Bulky household waste is to be brought to the three council recycling centres at Navan, Kells and Trim (run under contract by Oxigen Environmental), where it is charged per item on top of a €2 gate fee, or to Thorntons Dunboyne. Alternatively use an authorised private collector (check the NWCPO permit register). The council does run several free amnesty / drop-off weeks each year: a free mattress drop-off (typically April; e.g. Navan 18 April, Trim 19 April, Thorntons Dunboyne 19 April, Kells 20 April in 2024), a free bulky-furniture week in late July/August (couches, beds, chairs, tables, wardrobes, outdoor furniture, garden equipment, toys, trampolines, flooring, sanitary ware - mattresses excluded) rotating through Navan, Trim, Kells and Dunboyne, and a Halloween anti-bonfire drop-off in late October (furniture suites, beds, divans, bed frames, flooring, duvets, pillows, toys, doors, windows - no mattresses, paint, domestic or green waste). Rules: householders only, Meath residents only (bring photo ID plus a utility bill or driving licence), no commercial customers, and the €2 gate fee still applies. The council said in April 2026 the mattress amnesty and a sofa amnesty would run again in 2026; dates are announced on meath.ie, the council's social media and in the Meath Chronicle, and enquiries go to environment@meathcoco.ie.

Council details are taken from the councils’ own published information and checked periodically; hours and charges change, so confirm with the site before travelling. Where a council hasn’t published a charge we say so rather than guess.

Or we come to you

Set that against a collection from us: no van to borrow, no gate fee, no weighbridge surprise, no two-mattress limit, no carrying it down the stairs yourself, and no question about whether the site will turn your load away. We quote a fixed price from photos, we load it, and it leaves under our waste collection permit (NWCPO-25-13287-01). For a single item the council site can be cheaper if you already have the van and the time; for anything more than a car-boot load, we usually are.

How a hoarder clearance works with us

  1. A private conversation. With whoever is coordinating — family member, carer, housing officer or the person themselves. No judgement, no pressure.
  2. A plan. Full or staged, who’s present, what’s kept, what order. Written down and agreed.
  3. The clearance. Discreet crew, unmarked where asked, protective equipment where needed, valuables and documents set aside.
  4. Afterwards. Swept or deep-cleaned, photographed, and a report for housing bodies if required.

Hoarder Clearance in Meath — our crew loading the truck on a recent job

What affects the price in Meath

  • Volume — hoarded homes are many loads, not one
  • Condition — biohazard handling and protective equipment add cost
  • Staging — several visits cost more in total than one, but are often the right thing
  • Cleaning — deep cleaning is quoted separately
  • Access and parking — as with any clearance

Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters. We cover it by grouping Meath jobs on set days each week, so a one-off job here is priced as part of a round rather than a special trip. Send photos through the quote form or on WhatsApp and you’ll have a fixed price the same day.

Hoarder Clearance in Meath: frequently asked questions

Will the neighbours know?

Not from us. We can arrive in an unmarked vehicle, we don’t discuss the job with anyone outside it, and our crew is briefed to be discreet. The truck is loaded quickly and leaves.

My relative won’t agree to it. What can you do?

Nothing without their agreement, unless a landlord or housing body has the authority to require it — and even then we’d encourage involving them. What often works is starting small: one safe route through the house, nothing thrown away without their say. We’ll talk it through with you.

Can you work with social workers and housing officers?

Yes. We do regularly in Meath and across Leinster. We can provide insurance, risk assessments and a report after the clearance.

Will you find the money and the documents?

We look for them, specifically. Hoarded homes often contain cash, bank documents, passports and jewellery in unexpected places, and we treat every bag as if it might.

Do you clean afterwards?

We sweep as standard and can deep-clean, including sanitising, as a separate quoted item.

How long does it take?

Anything from a day to a week. A moderately cluttered home is a day or two; a severe one is several days and several loads. We tell you after seeing it.

Is there anything you won’t touch?

Sharps and clinical waste beyond household amounts, and anything that needs a specialist. We tell you if we see it rather than guess.

Can the person stay in the home while you work?

Often, in a staged clearance, yes — one room at a time, with a safe route kept clear. In a full clearance of an unsafe home it’s usually better they stay with family for the day.

Do you provide a written report for the housing officer?

Yes — what was cleared, what was kept, the condition found and left, with photographs. Many housing bodies in Meath ask for it.

Can you organise a deep clean afterwards?

Yes, as a separate quoted item — sanitising, odour treatment and a proper clean so the home is ready to live in again.

How do you keep this private?

Unmarked vehicle on request, a crew briefed not to discuss it, nothing left on the footpath, and no conversation with neighbours. Discretion is part of the service.

Does Meath County Council collect bulky items?

No. Meath County Council does not run a bulky-waste collection. Your options are the council recycling centres listed above — with their charges and limits — or a permitted private collector like us.

How far is Meath from your base?

Meath is a proper run for us — south Meath (Enfield, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne) is about an hour from Athy via the M4 and M50, Navan and Trim roughly 80 minutes, and Kells, Oldcastle and the coast around Laytown nearer an hour and three-quarters. We cover it by grouping Meath jobs on set days each week, so a one-off job here is priced as part of a round rather than a special trip.
